Michigan’s Letitia Sim Scores Another Singaporean & SEA Games Record With 2:13.42 200 IM

University of Michigan Senior Letitia Sim has broken two Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Records in as many days of the 2025 meet.

After scoring a 31.03 50 breaststroke record yesterday, the Alabama-raised Singaporean national came back today with a 2:13.42 200 IM. Sims led the heat with ease, registering the fastest fly, back, and breast splits of the field to win gold and break Thi Anh Vien Nguyen’s meet record.

She also took a bite out of her own 2:13.76 Singaporean national record, swum at the 2023 Japan Open.

Two women broke national records en route to gold in Bangkok tonight. Indonesian sprinter Masniari Wolf unleashed a 28.80 in the 50 back final, which is faster than the 28.89 she produced at the 2023 SEA Games for the gold and national record. Wolf has now won gold at three SEA games in a row in NR fashion.

Ching Hwee Gan had full control of the women’s 200 freestyle. The Singapore national clocked a 2:02.02 to beat runner-up Kayla Sanchez by a full two seconds. Sanchez reaped two silvers today; she also finished behind Wolf in the 50 back.

For Indiana Hoosier Mikkel Lee, another day of competition meant another gold and best time. Today, the Singaporean athlete’s win came in the 50 free, registering a time of 21.92. This bests his 21.99 PR and misses Tzen Wei Teong’s meet record by .01.

18-year-old Indonesian Jason Donovan joined Lee and Sim as the meet’s only double winners so far. He has swept the sprint backstrokes with a 25.36 in the 50 event today. 

The Vietnamese men had a superb session, winning two golds in the 100 breaststroke and 800 free relay. First, Thanh Bao Pham (1:01.43) outdueled Singapore’s Chun Ho Chan (1:01.72) for the 100 breast pole position. Then, the country’s contingent of 200 freestyles took to a 7:18.67 in the mid-d relay. Van Nguyen Quoc Tran had the fastest split of the field with a 1:47.82. The fastest lead-off went to Malaysia’s Hoe Yean Kiew in 1:48.48. Malaysia finished second overall.
