Swimming Dates Confirmed For 2027 World Aquatics Championships In Budapest

With World Aquatics and LA28 releasing a document outlining the qualifying standards for the 2028 Olympic Games, the dates for the 2027 World Aquatics Championships were confirmed.

According to the document, the 2027 Worlds will run from June 26 until July 18, with the pool swimming competition running during the third week of competition from July 10 through the 18th.

That mirrors the schedule we saw at the 2025 Worlds this past summer in Singapore, where pool swimming ran for the final eight days of the competition during Week 3, from July 27 until August 3.

Previously, Swimming Canada documents showed the 2027 Worlds running later in the summer, with pool swimming listed as going from August 15-22.

The 2027 Worlds will mark the third time Budapest has played host to the competition in a span of nine years, with the Hungarian capital first holding the World Aquatics Championships in 2017, and then in 2022, it stepped in as a late replacement after the Fukuoka Worlds were postponed until 2023.

Budapest also hosted the 2024 Short Course World Championships last December.

All three of those previous championships have been held at the famed Duna Arena, a location where 27 current world records have been established (six LC, 21 SC), though World Aquatics is reportedly considering holding swimming and water polo at the MVM Dome in 2027.

The Duna Arena, specifically built for the 2017 Worlds, has hosted the European Championships in 2021, World Cup events in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023, and International Swimming League (ISL) meets in addition to its three World Championships.
