Swedish European Juniors Qualifier Emmy Hällkvist has committed to Indiana University, joining the Hoosiers’ women’s 2027 recruiting class.
Hällkvist hails from Stockholm, Sweden, where she represents Täby Sim. She competed at the LEN European Junior Championships (LCM) this past summer, where she set a lifetime best in the 100 freestyle, leading off Sweden’s 4×100 free relay in 56.81. Individually, Hällkvist finished 9th in the 50 fly (26.95), tied 9th in the 100 fly via a swim-off for 8th (59.93), and 51st in the individual 100 free.
At the same meet, Hällkvist was the butterfly leg of the 4th-place finishing 4×100 mixed medley relay team for Sweden, splitting 59.22.
A year earlier, Hällkvist competed at the 2024 European Junior Championships (LCM), where she recorded several solid individual performances. She finished 4th in both the 50 butterfly (26.54) and 100 fly (59.19). She logged a lifetime best in the semifinals of the 50 fly, clocking 26.45.
One of her best short-course outings came at the SM/JSM Göteborg (SCM) in November of 2023. She clipped her best times in the 100 free (54.44), 200 free (2:02.31), 100 fly (58.20), and 100 IM (1:02.67).
Best Times Converted to SCY:
| Event | Time | SCY Conversion |
| 50 Free (SCM) | 25.03 | 22.54 |
| 100 Free (SCM) | 54.44 | 49.04 |
| 200 Free (SCM) | 2:02.31 | 1:50.18 |
| 100 Fly (LCM) | 59.19 | 52.06 |
The Indiana women finished as runners-up to Ohio State at last season’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships.
Based on Hällkvist’s converted times, she would have been projected to finish 4th in the 100 fly and qualify for the ‘C’ final in the 50 free and 100 free at those championships.
Hällkvist is already on an elite level when it comes to the 100 fly; her converted time still would have sat inside the top 30 (29th)at last season’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
The level of major international experience Hällkvist brings should translate well to the NCAA, and she still has another full season to improve before her NCAA debut.
Her 100 fly is a surefire contender; her freestyle sprints also provide a solid backbone for secondary events, but may still need more time to develop further options.
Hällkvist joins Zara Kocak, Addy Gebhart, Kate Fetters, and Bryce Winzenread in the Hoosier women’s 2027 recruiting class.
