The first sessions of Winter Junior Championships East (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Winter Junior Championships West (Austin, Texas) are in the books. As we always do, we will be combining the results from the two sites to bring you the top 8 finishers in each event from each day.
Day 1 was a timed-finals session that featured the 1000 free, 200 medley relay, and 800 free relay.
Girls’ 1000 Yard Freestyle – Timed Finals
- 13-14 NAG Record: 9:29.81 – Katie Ledecky, 2011

The West and East swimmers were evenly represented among the top 8, but West provided the two fastest times by 2.2 seconds, with Sydney Schoeck of CSP Tideriders leading the way with 9:32.29.

Colin Jacobs, who trains in Antibes, France, cleared the field by 9 full seconds in the East meet, and was 6.5 seconds faster than the West’s winner, Ellis Crisci.

The East turned out five of the eight fastest times in the girls’ 4×50 medley, with MSA’s Karina Plaza (24.75), Eliza Wallace (26.94), Taylor Klein (23.12, and Maddy Boland (22.48) combining for 1:37.29 to take the overall spot.

Waterloo’s Benjamin Jaggers (21.63), Max Laine (24.25), Austin Ross (21.38), and Julian Rusk (19.70) clocked a new West meet record of 1:26.96 and provided the fastest 4×50 medley overall, but the next 5 times came from the East meet, where those relays were only separated by half a second, from 1:27.11 to 1:27.59.

The West gave us five of the eight fastest swims but the East came in at #1 and #2. The TAC Titans quartet of Finola Whelehan (1:46.68), Reina Liu (1:47.54), Carolin He (1:49.04), and Sloane Whelehan (1:46.16) went 7:09.42 to win by 1.04 seconds ahead of Laker Swim’s Brynn Lavigueur, Addison Bitel, Lilliana Krstolic, and Rylee Erisman, who it should be noted, anchored with 1:41.86.
