That’s a cheap excuse for not breaking the world record at this meet. She did her best, and both she and Bob would have been thrilled had she broken the record yesterday.

I posted it at the wrong spot. It should’ve posted it after RipZoom’s comment.

I can’t help but think that without having done a triple last night, she may have gotten there

Summer McIntosh is still on track to become future GOAT.

So far, she and her family have made the right choices.

The GOAT discussion is distracting, a cul-de-sac and can’t be resolved. Comparing Thorpe and Phelps is dumb, just as is comparing Usain Bolt and a 1500m runner. It is fair to say in her era, Summer so far is the best mid-distance female swimmer, no question. But it is meaningless and self-defeating to compare her against Ledecky.

The thing that bugs me about this debate is….

Distance means freestyle. Yet many want multistroke for their GOAT. Ergo – many discount distance! That’s just not fair.

Just Keep Swimming

I think versatility is an important factor in GOAT, as well as competition. Female distance events are the least popular and least participated in. Unfortunately, it’s just much less impressive to win the women’s 1500 free than the 100 free because the level of competition is completely different.
