The Darmoth and Grand Canyon each hold a share of the top spot, while the Oakland men narrowly lead after day 1 of the first Golden Grizzly Classic in Rochester, which saw both the 800 free and 200 medley relays contested.
Women’s Recap:
Dartmouth came out of the gates hot, notching the first event win of the meet in the women’s 800 freestyle relay. The quartet of Sydney Rawie (1:50.26), Izzy Mundee (1:49.45), Carinn Bethea (1:48.81), and Samantha Li (1:51.89) banded together to take the win in 7:20.41 over runners-up Grand Canyon.
Grand Canyon earned revenge, taking the 200 medley relay win by over a second against Dartmouth. Luna Torre Ayala (26.12), Beth Young (27.63), Paula Martinez (24.36), and Sara Mose (22.39) clocked 1:40.50 to take the win for the Lopes, 1.24 seconds ahead of Dartmouth’s runner-up relay.

Men’s Recap:
Grand Canyon kicked off the scoring for the meet with a more than two-second win in the 800 free relay over the host team, Oakland. Mario Perez (1:36.02), Jasu Ovaskainen (1:37.26), Eli Cohen (1:39.00), and Guillermo Carrey (1:35.55) combined for the win in 6:27.83.
The Oakland men earned their first event win of the meet in the 200 medley relay. Harry Nicholson (22.21), Alex Lakin (24.10), Micah Scheffer (21.10), and Charlie Brown (19.10) totaled 1:26.66 to take the final event win of day 1. Oakland finished just nine hundredths ahead of Dartmouth and 18 one-hundredths ahead of Grand Canyon.
