GB’s Nowacki Gets .01 Under Establishment European Junior Record With 2:03.75 200 Breast

2025 EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Double LC World Junior Champion and five-time LC European Junior Champion Filip Nowacki is now picking up major accolades in the short pool.

The 18-year-old, who represents Great Britain, threw down a 2:03.75 to notch European Aquatics’ establishment record. Until today, no junior hit the 2:03.76 benchmark in this event since the federation established the targets in 2016. It was the last vacant individual mark in short course.

Since there is no old record, here is a split comparison between his 2nd place prelim swim this morning and his old best time of 2:05.89. The Jersey island native swam this previous best at the Island Games this summer, notching gold at the meet.

Filip Nowacki, SC Euros Prelims Filip Nowacki, Island Games
50 28.19 29.26
100 59.34 (31.15) 1:01.31 (32.05)
150 1:31.22 (31.88) 1:33.57 (32.26)
200 2:03.75 (32.53) 2:05.89 (32.32)

Nowack showed drastic improvements in his front-end speed since this summer, going out a full two seconds faster at the 100.

Tonight, the breakout star will no doubt be looking to hang with the big boys – Casper Corbeau, Arno Kamminga, and Carles Coll – for a medal. He’ll also be eyeing Shin Ohashi’s new 2:02.03 world junior record. This summer, Nowacki beat Ohashi in a head-to-head match-up in the long course 200 breaststroke at Junior Worlds.

Michael Jamieson remains the British record holder at 2:01.43 from the 2013 iteration of this meet.
