Canadian Olympic and world champion Summer McIntosh has been named to the Forbes North America 2025 ‘30 Under 30’ list for Sports.
The list highlights promising individuals across the sports industry, including athletes, executives, broadcasters, and content creators.
At 19, McIntosh is the youngest member of the list in 2025, and the only honoree under the age of 20.
McIntosh won four gold and one bronze medal at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore in August, becoming the third swimmer to achieve a five-medal haul at a single World Championships, joining Michael Phelps and Sarah Sjostrom. Her wins included the women’s 200 butterfly, 200 IM, 400 freestyle, and 400 IM.
The previous summer, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, she became the first Canadian to win three gold medals at a single edition of the Games, winning the 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM.
McIntosh’s recognition makes it the second year in a row that aquatic athletes have been named to this list, following American swimmer Kate Douglass, water polo player Maddie Musselman, and former Paralympic swimmer Victoria Arlen, who were awarded the same honor for 2024.
Prior to 2024, the most recent aquatics athlete named to the ‘30 Under 30’ list was Simone Manuel in 2022.
Nineteen of the 30 nominees (63.33%) on the list were women (or included women), one more than in 2024.
Forbes develops annual ‘30 Under 30’ lists for 20 industries, including Art & Style, Music, Hollywood & Entertainment, and Social Media. The list of nominations exceeds 20,000 across North America, Europe, and Asia. Forbes writers then sift through those nominations to determine honorees for each respective category.
This year’s judges for the Sports list were New York Liberty (WNBA) CEO Keia Clarke, MSP Sports Capital cofounder Jahm Najafi, Major League Cricket cofounder Vijay Srinivasan, and Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn.
