E.D. White Sweeps Titles At Louisiana Division III State Championships

The E.D. White Catholic High School girls team reclaimed the top spot, while the school’s boys team simply maintained it at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III State Championships.

After finishing as runner-up and seeing a string of five straight state titles come to an end last year, the E.D. White girls are champions again, finishing 110 points ahead of Parkview Baptist, which was first in eight events.

The E.D. White boys squad won its ninth straight title, finishing more than 300 points in front of runner-up Vandebilt Catholic.

Girls’ Recap

E.D. White might have won the team title, but the three individual stars were from Parkview Baptist: Sophomore Lydia Talley, freshman Faith Kubricht and eighth grader Samantha Johnston.

Talley won the 200 free in 1:54.77 and the 500 free in a time of 5:08.81.

Kubricht captured the 100 free in a time of 52.64 and the 100 breast in a personal best time of 1:06.11.

Johnston also had two wins, claiming the 100 fly in 56.90 and the 100 back in a personal best time of 57.58.

The three were also instrumental in Parkview Baptist winning two relays.

The  Parkview Baptist team of  Talley (27.90), Kubricht (30.21), Johnston (25.36) and Ramsey Edmonds (27.71) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:51.18.

In the 400 free relay, the quartet of Talley (53.57), Kubricht (53.93), Lucy Cramer (59.70), and Johnston (54.06) topped the field in a time of 3:41.26.

The 200 free relay was won by E.D. White’s team of Bree Usey (25.39), Elizabeth Ledet (26.52), Kynlee Cazenave (25.71) and Ryli Cazenave (24.39) in a time of 1:42.01.

Other individual winners were:

  • Episcopal junior Lilianna Latour repeated as champion in the 200 IM, doing so in a personal best time of 2:12.22.
  • JJ Rush, an eighth- grader from University Laboratory, won the 50 free in a personal best time of 24.24.

Boys’ Recap

There were repeat champions in four events, with E.D. White senior Luke Husbands repeating in the sprint freestyle races.

Husbands won the 50 free in a personal best of 20.68, and then also repeated as champion in the 100 free with a time of 44.71.

E.D. White senior Thomas Daigle repeated in the 200 free with a personal best time of 1:42.04, while Westlake senior Talen Garrard repeated in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 52.44.

The other multiple event winner was Calvary Baptist senior Sam Ponder, who first swam a personal best time of 4:53.68 to claim the 500 free. Ponder then improved on a 2nd-place finish last year in the 100 back, winning the title this year in 51.58.

E.D. White sophomore AJ Lafont won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 1:52.07 and Episcopal junior Jack McConnell claimed the 100 breast title in a personal best time of 58.62.

E.D. White swept all three relays.

The team of Peyton Rodrigue (26.90), James Cundiff (27.81), Cooper Bilello (23.84), and Landen Poynter (22.53) first won the 200 medley relay in 1:41.08.

In the 200 free relay, the squad of Daigle (21.77), Lafont (20.76), Jonathan Husbands (21.09) and Luke Husbands (20.30) won in a time of 1:23.92.

Finally, the team of Daigle (46.88), Lafont (48.25), J. Husbands (47.47) and L. Husbands (44.64) won the 400 free relay in 3:07.24.

2nd place for boys is Vandebilt Catholic not Vanderbilt, and it was a tie with St. Louis. But Good job to all swimmers who worked hard all season long!
