Irish record holder Ellen Walsh’s will skip tonight’s 100 fly semi-finals after qualifying as the #7 seed this morning. She clocked a time of 57.38 to win the first of the circle-seeded heats.

She does not miss out without a cause however. Walshe is the 5th fastest qualifier into a cutthroat 100 IM final tonight, which sees 0.35 seconds separate the entire top eight in the semis.

She set an Irish record in those semi finals in a time of 58.19, her seventh national record in the last two months. She has reset the Irish standard in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 fly already this fall.

Portusguese record holder Mariana Cunha takes her place in the 100 fly after she clocked a time of 58.63 this morning.

Sean Niewold of the Netherlands scratches the men’s 100 fly after qualifying as 12th.

The Dutch are one of the favorites for the mixed 4×50 free relay at the end of tonight’s session, which Niewold will feature on. He had the only sub-21 split for their men’s 4×50 free relay on Day 1.

The only other scratches tonight come from the ‘2 per nation’ rule, which sees some big names miss out.

Francesco Lazzari is an unfortunate victim once again after finishing 10th in the 100 men’s back, having also missed out as the third Italian in the 50 fly on Day 1.

Luke Greenbank and Lazzari’s fellow Italian Christian Bacico, a breakout star in long course this summer, will also watch that event from the sidelines having initially placed 9th and 12th.

Adrian Jaskiewicz (POL), Stanislas Huille (FRA), and Federico Burdisso (ITA) will not swim the men’s 100 fly semis.

Jaskiewicz (0.06 seconds) and Huille (0.02 seconds) were just hundredths away from being the second-fastest from their nations.

Filip Nowacki’s European Junior Record and a surprise Tom Dean swim pushed world semi-finalist Greg Butler out of the men’s 200 breast.

Jan Malte Grafe, World Junior Record holder in the long course 50, received the same treatment as the third-fastest German, as did compatriot Linda Roth in the woman’s 100 back.
