Big Ten Champion, Michigan Junior Colin Geer Misses CSCAA Dual Challenge With Mono

The University of Michigan men’s team has been dealing with several significant absences early in the 2025-26 season, and during last week’s CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, they were without another.

Wolverine junior Colin Geer, an NCAA ‘A’ finalist last season, missed the marquee competition of the fall semester due to contracting mononucleosis, his father confirmed to SwimSwam.

Geer was reportedly “staying positive” amidst the illness and was back in the water at the end of last week as his teammates competed at Tennessee.

The 21-year-old has raced three times for Michigan so far this season, with his most recent showing coming on Oct. 25 against Northwestern and UCLA, where he posted season-bests in the men’s 100 fly (46.29) and 200 fly (1:43.08) en route to a pair of runner-up finishes.

Last season, Geer was an ‘A’ finalist at the 2025 Men’s NCAA Championships, placing 8th in the 200 fly (1:39.83) after clocking 1:39.65 in the prelims. He also placed 10th in the 200 IM with a new best time of 1:40.55.

One month earlier, Geer was crowned Big Ten champion in the men’s 200 fly after setting a best time of 1:39.58 in the final, and he also placed 4th in both the 100 fly (45.10) and 200 IM (1:40.65).

As a freshman, Geer placed 13th in the 200 fly at NCAAs after earning top-eight finishes in the 100 fly (8th), 200 fly (5th) and 200 IM (4th) at Big Tens.

The Michigan men were missing Jack WilkeningBoldizsar MagdaAlexey Glivinskiy, and Jon Jontvedt early in the 2025-26 season, though Wilkening returned earlier this month. Glavinskiy has since recommitted to the University of Texas.

Without Geer, Magda, Glivinsky and Jontvedt racing over the weekend, the Wolverines placed 3rd at the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, topping Virginia 37-19 in the third-place meet on Sunday.

Thanks for the update. Mono has been a real monster for them this year.

I believe Lorne Wigginton has yet to swim this year as well.

He swam in Knoxville. Looked pretty good considering he was out with a sprained ankle for the past month.

Aren’t they permanently going to be missing Glivinsky considering he switched his commitment to Texas?

The Michigan Men’s and Women’s teams are having very polarizing trajectories this season

UM Women might mess around and get back in the top 4 at NCAAs

UM Men might mess around and miss the Top 3 at Big Ten’s

What a brain dead comment

Walk me through how predicting that one team with a revitalized Bella Sims and surging Stephanie Balduccini (amongst others) could make noise at NCAAs and one team with a lot of promise but hit by unfortunate circumstances that could lead to a conference slip up is a “brain dead comment”
