The Miami (OH) Invite took place last week at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio. After some trading places, the Notre Dame men’s and women’s teams emerged victorious. The hosting RedHawks kept it close in the women’s team race, coming in 2nd by just 42 points, while DII U Indy kept it within 100 points of the Notre Dame men’s team.
U Indy senior Swann Plaza set the tone early, establishing a new pool record in the men’s 500 free on day 2 of the meet. Plaza popped a 4:16.21, setting a new career best and nearly breaking the U Indy program record in the process.
The Hounds had another excellent perf0rmance on day 2 of the meet, seeing Kirabo Namutebi win the women’s 50 free in 22.31 after clocking a 22.27 in prelims. Namutebi’s swim was under the NCAA DII ‘A’ standard, as was Plaza’s.
Also on day 2, Notre Dame sophomore Shane Eckler showed a flash, winning the men’s 50 free in 19.43. That swim came after he posted his career best of 19.21 leading off the ND men’s 200 free relay at the start of the session. Though he’s a sophomore, this is Eckler’s first season competing for Notre Dame, as the men’s team was suspended last season. Eckler would go on to help Notre Dame’s men’s 400 medley relay set a new pool record. Marcus Reyes-Gentry (46.20), Jack Armour (53.64), Dillon Edge (46.40), and Eckler (42.57) combined for a 3:08.81, taking down the previous pool record of 3:09.47.
Notre Dame freshman, Gus MacDonald, had a strong showing on day 3 of the meet. MacDonald took the men’s 400 IM in 3:45.67, marking a new career best by 1.69 seconds. He was particularly good on the breast leg of the race, splitting 1:01.92 on that leg of the race.
A duo of Notre Dame freshman then went on to beat the pool record in the men’s 200 free on day 3 of the meet. Eckler won the race, swimming a new career best of 1:33.01, while first year teammate Patrick Branon came in 2nd with a 1:33.57. Both swimmers were well under Carson Foster‘s 2019 pool record time of 1:34.49.
Notre Dame saw a program record fall in the women’s 100 free when sophomore Hollie Widdows clocked a 48.24 to win the race. That performance took down Abbie Dolan’s ND record of 48.27, which was set back in 2019.
U Indy sophomore Jeremias Pock was very good in the men’s 100 breast, swimming a 52.46 to win the men’s 100 breast. That performance came in just off his career best of 52.08.
On the final day of the meet, Indiana State freshman Grace Cummings had a huge swim in the women’s 1650 free, winning the event with a time of 16:23.09. That swim marks a new career best for Cummings, who came to Indiana State from Great Britain.
U Indy’s Plaza was back in action in the men’s 1650 free, breaking the pool record there as well. His time of 14:55.99 blew away the previous pool record of 15:05.14, and marks a new U Indy program record as well.
Notre Dame freshman Jack Armour won the men’s 200 breast in 1:53.80, marking a new career best for the first year. Armour was out fast, splitting 53.82 on the opening 100.

What was the Over & Under on this meet?
Notre Dame skipped Day 1 relays and their divers competed at a different meet. Go Irish!
looking at meet results it looks like notre dame didn’t compete the 8 FR or had diving
Go Irish!!!
I’d wager they’re pretty pumped right now.
I’d BET they are! See what I did there?
