NORFOLK, VA – The Gardner-Webb women’s swimming scored an overall win against Old Dominion across Friday and Saturday in the pool, headlining a strong individual and overall weekend in the pool for the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

The first strong individual run for the GWU women came via freshman Jenna Valentine in the women’s 200 yard free. Valentine took the top spot with a blistering time of 1:52.30 with a 26.21 second first split. Valentine later went on to also win the women’s 200 yard fly, doing so in 2:03, and was scored in second in the women’s 100 yard free in 52.64 seconds, as well as the women’s 100 yard fly in 56.51 seconds

On the men’s side, sophomore Santiago Alcantara and junior Luke Weber went one-two for Gardner-Webb in the men’s 1650 yard free. Alcantara won the event in 15:53, with teammate Weber in second with a time of 16:07. Alcantara also picked up a win in the men’s 200 yard fly later on, just ahead of GWU teammate Alex Cook, with the two recording times of 1:50 and 1:52 back to back

En route to a team overall win, junior Slawka Ndubuisi nabbed a win for the Gardner-Webb women in the women’s 100 yard backstroke. Ndubuisi was excellent, just inching out a win by .04 seconds with a time of 56.68 with a 27.48 first lap split. She’d later go on to win the women’s 100 yard free in 52.05 seconds and the women’s 50 yard backstroke in 26,77 seconds

GWU took first and third in the women’s 50 yard fly. Sophomore Jillian Hawkins captured the win in 25.74 seconds, while teammate senior Hannah Routh was third in 26.05 seconds. Hawkins and Routh also each took part with Valentine in the women’s 100 yard fly, with the trio finishing 1-2-3, Valentine as previously mentioned in 56.51 seconds, Routh second in 56.86 seconds, and Hawkins third in 57.29 seconds

Junior Carter Redelman led another one-two for Gardner-Webb, this time with teammate sophomore Augustin Orechia in the men’s 100 yard backstroke. Redelman won the event in 50.01 seconds, while Orechia was just behind in second in 50.58 seconds

Sophomore Dakota Townley picked up where she left off last weekend for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, scoring another win in the women’s 50 yard breaststroke. Townley touched the wall in 29.76 seconds, before later winning the women’s 200 yard breaststroke in 2:20 with a lightning fast 31.10 first split. To add to the success of the Gardner-Webb women, Townley was als second in the women’s 100 yard breaststroke in 1:04.01

NORFOLK, Va. – Zach Redding set four J.C. Scrap Chandler Pool records as the Old Dominion men’s swimming team defeated Gardner-Webb 197-141 over a two-day meet this weekend. The Gardner-Webb women’s team eked out a 170-165 win over the Monarchs.

The meet began with the women’s 200 medley relay of Addie Elliott, Jadyn WhittMia Bailon and Lauren Masters taking second with a time of 1:45.75.

The men’s team of Jordan DavisBryce MortimerDawson Truong and Redding won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.42.

Gabriella Gonzalez won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:20.73, Sophia Kapla came in second in 17:39.27 and Anna Eberle took third in 17:49.87.

Grey Bremer took third in the 1650 men’s free with a time of 16:10.09.

Mallory Mackay took second in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.66 and Kristilynn Mosley finished third in 1:55.56.

Redding smashed the ODU pool record in the 200 free with a time of 1:36.40, while Nick Martin took third with a time of 1:40.44. Redding earned his second pool record in the 50 free with a time of 19.84. Robby Young placed third in 20.97.

Elliott added another second-place spot in the 100 backstroke with a time 56.72. Ally Hilbrich followed in third in a time of 57.31.

Lucas Abd notched a third-place spot in the men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 51.21.

Abd finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of1:51.35.

Bailon led the way for ODU in the 50 butterfly by finishing second with a time of 25.93.

Jordan Smolsky led ODU to go 1-2 in the 50 fly with a time of 22.34, while Davis came in second in a time of 22.62.

Adrienne Rinker earned a win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.92, while Whitt took third in 1:05.60. Rinker added her second win in the 100 IM with a time of 59.11. Mosley finished in second with a time of 59.52. Rinker came in second in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 30.0 with Whitt right behind in third at 30.45.

Mortimer notched another win for the men in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.38 and Truong second with a time of 55.93.

Linnea Kallebo took second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.47, while Anna Bearor finished third in 2:10.53.

Zane Nall added a third-place spot in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.49.

In the 50 free, Lauren Masters took second in 24.41 while Bella Pachek took third in 24.62.

Masters added a third spot in the 100 free with a time of 52.92.

Redding notched another record in the 100 free with a time of 43.42. Young finished second in 45.84 and ODU swept the event as David took third in 46.10.

Mosley won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.69 while Kallebo took third with a time of 2:05.39.

Gonzalez took the win in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.12, as Kapla followed in 5:09.97 and Mackay third in 5:15.23.

Bremer came in second in the 500 free with a time of 4:31.86.

In the 50 backstroke, Elliott finished in third with a time of 26.86.  Davis came in third in the men’s 50 backstroke with a time of 23.75.

Redding registered his fourth pool record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.10. Truong came in third with a time of 49.89.

Mosley notched another ODU win with a time of 2:07.40 as Rinker earned another second place finish in 2:08.43.

In the final event of the day, ODU took second in the 400 free relay as the team of Hilbrich, Claire Porter, Pachek and Lauren Masters finished in 3:33.59.

The men’s team capped their win with a triumph in the 400 free relay as the team of Young, Brice Bounds, Davis and Redding won in 3:01.31.
