Summer Juniors finalist Maria Champion has verbally committed to Texas A&M University for the recruiting class of 2027.

Champion is from Waxhaw, North Carolina where she swims for SwimMAC Carolina. She recently swam at the 2025 Summer Junior Championships in July, qualifying for finals in the 200 fly, where she ultimately finished 30th in 2:18.69 after setting a season best 2:18.32 in the prelims.
She also swam the 50 fly, finishing 94th in 28.95, and the 100 fly, where she finished 71st in 1:03.02.
Champion will be a junior this year at Charlotte Catholic High School. At the 2025 NCHSAA 4A State Championships, she finished 4th in the 100 fly (55.41), and 12th in the 200 IM (2:03.99). She was also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American this year.
Her best times in most of her primary events come from the Speedo Winter Junior Championships, where she finished 10th in the 200 fly, 28th in the 100 fly, and 40th in the 200 IM.

Texas A&M competes in the SEC where they finished 8th out of 13 teams at the 2025 SEC Championships with their first year head coach Blaire Anderson.
Champion’s best event for the Aggies will be the 200 fly where her time of 1:59.46 would have ranked her 3rd on last season’s team behind Olivia Theall and Katie Walker, both of whom have graduated or will graduate before Champion arrives on campus in the fall of 2027.
She will join Emma Liebler and Summer Mudadu in the recruiting class of 2027.
