Towson made good work of La Salle in the season opener Saturday, the Tigers winning on both sides of the meet with a 214–86 victory for the women’s side and a 212–88 for the men’s. Depth across the board was the difference for Towson, but the Explorers had several event wins to build off for the rest of the season.
Women’s Meet Recap:
Towson’s women took both relay wins in the 200 medley (1:45.82) and 200 free relays (1:36.12).
Freshman Kaitlyn Besner (10:40.72) won the women’s 1000 free for Towson in a strong debut swim.
Towson also won several sprint events, including wins from sophomores Bjartey Gudmundsdottir (women’s 50 free, 24.35) and Ryland Zuniga (women’s 100 free, 53.53).
Junior Addie Scott won both the 200 free (1:51.26) and 200 back (2:03.03).
Towson swept wins on the board behind Shannon Parrau’s 1-meter and 3-meter performance. (280.80, 279.90)
Leading the way for the La Salle women was sophomore Cecilie Nørgaard Frost, who took the win in the women’s 200 fly in 2:09.29. Senior Gabriela Herbreder notched a win in the 200 breast, clocking 2:22.42.
Men’s Meet Recap:
Leading the charge for the Tigers were strong relay teams, who won both men’s 200 medley and 200 free relays (1:30.52, 1:23.89).
Junior McKendree transfer Christian Davidson (9:39.73) won the men’s 1000 free in his Towson debut.
Sean Colson brought home the men’s 100 back win for Towson in 50.31, over two seconds ahead of the field in the event. He followed that win up by completing the backstroke sweep, touching in 1:51.08 in the 200 back, two seconds faster than his performance this time last season.
Tennessee transfer Jed Garner followed suit on the men’s side for the Tigers, sweeping the breaststroke events (56.71, 2:05.96) before adding the 200 IM to his win total (1:57.37). Junior Benjamin Eischeid added to Towson’s event tally in the men’s 50 free touching in 21.18.
Sam Tennell replicated Parrau’s success, winning both the 1-meter (314.40) and 3-meter (304.95) diving events.
The La Salle men were led by junior Carter Perkins, who won both the 200 free (1:42.65) and 100 free (45.76). Senior Felix Jedbratt also earned a pair of wins, sweeping both the 100 and 200 butterfly in 48.98 and 1:51.97, respectively.
Towson travels to Fordham on October 3rd, and La Salle will host Drexel on October 18th.
