Katy Aquatics product and Texas native Lauren Cochran has verbally committed to stay in state, joining the Rice University women’s program for the fall of 2026.

Cocharan claimed her 4th and 5th Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) State titles this past February, winning both the 200 (1:51.79) and 500 freestyle (4:59.30). She reclaimed her 500 title from the year prior, when she touched in 5:04.59, and improved on her 2nd place finish from 2024 in the 200 free where she finished in 1:52.42.
Her first two titles came as a freshman at The Village School in Houston, when she won both the 200 free (1:51.39) and 500 free (5:04.73).
Her 200 free and 500 free bests were set at different iterations of the Speedo Southern Premier. In 2023, she marked her fastest 200 free in 1:50.84; more recently, she swam her best 500 free in 4:59.13.
Cochran also set a pair of notable bests at the LAC Fall Classic in 2023. She finished in 2:05.54 in the 200 butterfly and 10:24.00 in the 1000 free.

The Rice women took home the AAC title last season at the 2025 AAC Swimming and Diving Championships, marking their first conference title since 2013-14.
Based on Cochran’s best times, she would have qualified for the consolation finals in the 200 free, 500 free, and 200 fly.
Cochran already has valuable scoring times for a well-established mid-major Rice program, which narrowly edged out Florida International by 1.5 points last season.
Cochran joins Brianna Gough, Camryn Jones, and Winnie Liu in the Rice class of 2030.
