The 4th annual edition of the National Arena Junior Swimming League Final unfolded on Saturday, September 20th with a historic victory at the hands of Guildford City.
Guildford City already won the National Arena Senior Swimming League Final this past March and their junior win rendered them the first club ever to claim both titles for two consecutive years.
As in the past, the final included swimmers aged 9-12 vying for points and titles representing the top 10 teams. The top tier was narrowed down to over 100 clubs from across the country whose swimmers competed in the same 31-event program in three regional rounds in May, June and July.
Guildford City retained its title across the 33-event program and also won the relay challenge trophy, an honor determined by the best combined overall relay time.
Final points
- Guildford City SC – 229 pts
- Chelsea & Westminster – 195 pts
- Wycombe District – 173 pts
- Camden Swiss Cottage – 142 pts
- Stockport Metro – 126 pts
- Brompton – 110 pts
- Bracknell & Wokingham – 109 pts
- Maidenhead Marlins – 105 pts
Relay Challenge for the best total time of all the relay events
Guildford’s Junior National Lead coach, Sam Tierney, commented, “We’re delighted to have retained this title and make it 4 outright wins in the past 5 years . This is always a great competition to start off the season and congratulations to all the teams present today for some exciting racing.
“Well done to all our swimmers, including the many who also raced in the earlier rounds and our other teams. The club works toward these league performances and thanks must go to our academy programme for the development of swimmers year after year who go on to represent the club in all our arena league teams.”
