Fresh off winning gold at the 2025 World Championships in the men’s 200 butterfly, American star Luca Urlando was back in action last weekend as he kicked off the college season with his University of Georgia teammates during a dual meet against UNC-Wilmington.
Urlando, who first competed for Georgia in the 2020-21 season but has another year of eligibility after this one, rolled to victory in all four events he raced, including the 200 freestyle.
The 23-year-old soared to a three-second victory in the event in a time of 1:37.73, outpacing teammates Luke Sandberg (1:40.73) and Will Gavin (1:40.79) as the Bulldogs swept the top four spots.

Urlando set a personal best time of 1:31.81 in the 200 free at last season’s SEC Championships, and the only other time he raced it during the year was also against UNC-Wilmington (1:32.05), though that was in January.
Urlando also won the 200 back (1:45.78) at the competition and swam on Georgia’s winning 400 free and 400 medley (where each swimmer swam 100 IM) relays as the Bulldogs cruised to a 224.5-73.5 victory.

Urlando enters this season as the defending national champion in the 200 fly, and he also placed 3rd in the 100 fly and 9th in the 200 IM at the 2025 Men’s NCAA Championships.
