Sprint Freestyler Hannah Tubbs Commits To Wisconsin–Green Bay For Fall 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sprint freestyle specialist Hannah Tubbs, a native of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. She trains year-round with the Northern Lakes Aquatic Club and attends Black River Falls High School.

Tubbs confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:

I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to continue my academic and swimming career at the Division 1 level! Thank you to my coaches, teammates, and family for always supporting me throughout these years. Thank you to Coach Alex and Grace for this amazing opportunity. So excited for the next 4 years! Go Phoenix!!

Tubbs’ target meets of the last high school season were the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 1 Sectional 1 meet and the WIAA Girls Division 1 State Championships, both held a week apart in early November.

At Sectionals, Tubbs walked away with two individual gold medals around her neck. She tackled the 50 free (24.50) and 100 free (53.14) individually, with both times checking in as new career bests. She also anchored Black River Falls’ winning 200 medley relay in 24.31 as well as anchored their first-place 400 free relay in 53.56.

Tubbs’ momentum continued into the State Championships, where she reached the podium in both sprint freestyles. She captured the title in the 100 free with a personal best of 52.24 and also earned silver in the 50 free, clocking a time of 24.26—just 0.66 seconds behind the winner. She did not compete in any relay events at the meet.

She wrapped up her season at the Wisconsin Senior Championships with her club team in February. There, she touched 52nd in the 50 free (25.00), 32nd in the 100 free (53.59), 65th in the 200 free (2:01.09), and 48th in the 100 breast with a PB (1:10.69).

On relays, she helped the 200 free relay take 22nd with a 24.53 split, contributed to the 400 free relay’s 26th-place finish with a 54.53 split, aided the 400 medley relay to 20th with a 53.47 split, and anchored the 800 free relay to 16th with a 2:02.32 lead-off.

Alex Lewis took the helm of the UWGB program in November 2021. He was able to hire a full-time assistant coach and a graduate assistant last season; in the first three years of his tenure as head coach, it was just him and a diving coach.

The UWGB women took sixth out of six teams at last year’s Horizon League Championships. A year prior, they finished last in the conference as well.

The conference meet scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals. Tubbs’ best time in the 100 free would have ranked 15th after prelims, earning her a spot in the ‘B’ heat, while it took 51.21 to make the ‘A’ final. In the 50 free, she would have needed 24.09 for the ‘B’ heat or 23.62 for the ‘A’ final. Her third-best event, the 100 breast, presents a bigger challenge—her current lifetime best is well short of the 1:06.22 that was needed to earn a second swim.

According to the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Tubbs’ career bests in the two freestyle events would have ranked her second. Junior Emily Allen led the way with marks of 23.35, 51.18, and 1:50.27, respectively. Allen was fourth in the 200 free, seventh in the 100 free, and ninth in the 50 at the Horizon League Championships, but will be graduating a few months prior to Tubbs’ arrival on campus.

Tubbs joins Lindsey Schlegel, Avelyn Brown, and Madeline Bichon in UWGB’s 2030 recruiting class. The swimmers will arrive on a campus that has recently made several upgrades to its aquatic center, including a new $65,000 video board. The facelift at the pool comes amid other positive momentum for the NCAA Division I program, which included the reinstatement of athletic scholarships for the 2024-2025 season, four years after they were eliminated in a budget measure.
