Swims You Might Have Missed On Day Two Of The 2025 World Junior Championships

2025 World Junior Swimming Championships

The first night of finals at the 2025 World Junior Championships featured outstanding swims from many stars including Rylee Erisman, Filip Nowacki, Charlotte Crush, and Yang Peiqi, among others. However, SwimSwam wants to highlight a few performances that may have gone under the radar and weren’t discussed in significant detail in our full session live recap.

Without further ado…

  • Australian Jessica Cole came into the girls’ 200 butterfly seeded 8th on the entry sheets with a best time of 2:10.64 from the Australian Age Championships this past April. She held her seed, going 2:12.13 to slide into lane eight for the ‘A’ final by just three hundredths. She rose to the occasion when it mattered at night, slicing 2.57 and 1.08 seconds off her prelim and best times, respectively, to take 5th in 2:09.56. She sat in 5th almost the whole way through the first 50, then fell to 6th, regained 5th early in the third lap, and held it for the rest of the race.
  • In the boys’ 100 breaststroke final, bronze medalist Max Morgan‘s first 50 split was eye-popping. While Morgan matched his overall 100 best time of 59.93 from yesterday’s semifinals, it was that opening split of 27.44 that made headlines. The time eclipsed his own British 17-year-old age record of 27.50 from last month’s senior World Championships, where he finished 29th.
  • Team Canada’s Madison Kryger has been on a roll in the girls’ 100 backstroke over the past 24 hours. She entered the meet with a 1:00.60 personal best from the Canadian Trials. She then logged 1:00.38 in yesterday’s semifinals to earn the 3rd seed heading into the final. In tonight’s championship heat, she clocked 1:00.27 after splitting 29.40/30.87 to move up from 6th at the 50 mark and nab bronze.
  • After leading the American 4×200 free quartet off in a lifetime-best 1:57.53 last night, Georgia commit Kennedi Dobson chopped over three seconds off her best time in the 800 free. The 18-year-old touched the wall 5th in 8:34.74, which undercut her previous best of 8:37.92 from the Eastern Zone Senior Championships last August.
  • After winning the 200 free with a Championship Record and Italian Record of 1:45.15 earlier in the session, Carlos D’Ambrosio returned to the pool to anchor Italy’s mixed 4×100 medley relay in 47.02. The 18-year-old’s split was way under his flat-start best time of 47.78 from leading off the Italian 4×100 free relay that won silver at the senior World Championships last month.
