New Zealand to Send Powerful 32-Swimmer Roster to 2014 Oceania Championships

Swimming New Zealand has announced their 32-swimmer roster for the 2014 Oceania Swimming Championships, that they will host in Auckland from May 20th-May 23rd.

Unlike their Australian neighbors, New Zealand will send an “A” squad to this meet, in an effort to protect home turf. While the Kiwis don’t return either of their two gold medalists from the 2012 championships (Carsten Corazza, Kurt Crosland), the team they bring this year should be even bigger.

This team will include triple World Championship bronze medalist Lauren Boyle, who scored last summer in Barcelona in the 500, 800, and 1500 meter freestyles. She will be a huge favorite to win golds in the former of those two races.

Also on this roster is butterflier Sophia Batcherlor, middle distance freestyler Matthew Stanley (16th at Worlds in the 200 free), and 2012 Oceania Championships 50 free silver medalist Cameron Simpson.

This roster almost triples the 12 swimmers sent to New Caledonia to race two years ago.
