2025 U.S. Summer Championships

Day two of the 2025 U.S. Summer Championships saw some exciting swims in the top heats, particularly from some of the Australian swimmers. Aaron Shackell also shook up the 2026 Pan Pacs roster with his swim in the men’s 400 freestyle taking over Luka Mijatovic for the 2nd spot in the event.

What about the non-championship swims, though? There was fast swimming across the board, so here are some of the swims you might’ve missed yesterday.

In the women’s 400 freestyle final, Summer Cardwell, from Louisville, swam 4:12.12 to finish 5th, dropping almost two seconds from her seed time. The swim was also a new personal best time for her in the event. Her first best time since May of 2021 when she swam 4:13.69.

Gabriel Manteufel, from the Sandpipers of Nevada, dropped three seconds in his 400 freestyle, swimming 3:51.23 and finishing 5th. The Indiana commit’s previous best time was 3:54.17 from U.S. Nationals in June, slightly faster than his preseason best of 3:54.30.

Colin Jacobs, the 6th place finisher in the men’s 400 freestyle, also swam a new best time of 3:52.12. This was about a second-and-a-half faster than the 3:53.66 he swam in May, but it marks a near seven second drop this season from the 3:59.05 he swam last February.

Sydney Gring, from Pittsburgh, took 5th in the women’s 100 butterfly, touching in 59.56 after breaking 1:00 for the first time in the prelims with a 59.58. Before this meet, her lifetime best was 1:00.08 from this meet last year.

Lawson Ficken, from Cavalier Aquatics, swam 1:00.53 to drop just under a second from her lifetime best in the event, finishing 13th. Her best stood at 1:01.44 from a few weeks ago, which was about a second faster than the 1:02.26 that was her best time coming into this season.

In the men’s 100 fly, Indiana’s Luke Barr dropped about seven tenths to finish 11th overall in 53.53. His previous best time was 54.21 from last summer’s Olympic Team Trials.

Ohio State University’s Paige Delma swam 2:32.37 to finish 9th in the women’s 200 breaststroke. This time marked a near three second drop this season from her previous best time of 2:35.06 from last July.

Indiana Swim Club’s Charlie Egeland finished 4th in the 200 breast in 2:12.82, a little more than a second faster than the 2:13.97 he swam at last summer’s Olympic Trials.

Alexei Avakov, also from Indiana Swim Club was 9th in 2:14.08, almost three seconds faster than the 2:16.82 he swam in June of this year. He has dropped almost four seconds this year from the 2:17.94 he swam at a Futures meet last July.
