Jianna Amores Wins Six Events At FGC Age Group Champs

Fourteen-year-old Jianna Amores brought the heat to the Florida Gold Coast (FGC) Age Group Championships this past weekend in Stuart, Florida.

The Miami teenager, swimming unattached, threw down impressive lifetime bests in all seven of her individual races, notching six first-place finishes.

The highlight of her weekend was a scorching 1.00.13 in Sunday’s 100 butterfly final, achieving a U.S. Open cut, and setting a new FGC record for 13-14 girls.

Amores’ only second-place finish of the competition came in the 100 freestyle, where she swam an impressive 57.89, finishing behind Penelope Lopez-Casula, another 14-year-old South Florida phenom, who hit the wall in her own best time of 57.11.

Amores’ other winning times included:

  • 200 back – 2:21.89
  • 200 IM – 2:23.17
  • 200 butterfly – 2:18.96
  • 100 back: – 1:03.80
  • 400 IM – 5:08.55

Topping the 13-14 girls’ high point standings, Amores finished with 61 points on the weekend. Lopez-Casula was 2nd, with 55 points.
