Brandon Fleck of the Southeastern Swim Club was the individual high point award winner and swam five lifetime bests as the top junior-aged swimmer of the meet while a crew from the hosts Indiana University picked up plenty of hardware at the 2025 Indiana Swimming LSC Senior Championships last weekend.

Fleck got a head start on racing with his future Indiana teammates, as he will join the Hoosiers’ varsity squad in the fall. The Germantown Academy product won the 400 free final in a time of 3:58.16, improving his best time by only five seconds.

While that was his only win of the weekend, it was far from his only best time. He finished 2nd in the 100 free (50.46, a .70 second improvement); 2nd in the 200 free (1:50.65, a 1.77 second improvement); and 2nd in the 100 fly (55.41, a 1.14 second improvement).

He also swam lifetime bests in the 50 free (23.52) and 100 back (58.26). The 100, 200, and 400 freestyles were all new Winter U.S. Open time standards.

The Indiana roster, best known for their success in breaststroke, always have a handful of versatile sprinters on their roster like Fleck, too, so he should fit in well for the Hoosiers.

Speaking of Indiana breaststrokers – the meet was a veritable bloodbath in the men’s 100 meter race, though it was not a Hoosier who won. Logan Kelly from IU Indy (formerly known as IUPUI). He won the race in 1:01.03, undercutting his previous best of 1:01.66 done at this meet in 2023.

That time, if done at US Nationals in early June, would have placed Kelly squarely into the B-Final.

In the process, he beat out five Indiana swimmers, including Nationals A-finalist (and 200 breast NCAA Champion) Jassen Yep, who finished 2nd in 1:02.41. The next best performer at the meet besides Kelly was Van Mathias, who swam 1:01.63 in prelims before scratching the final.

Mathias also won the 50 free in a best time of 22.25 and swam a best time of 27.54 in the 50 breaststroke.

Of note, one of Kelly’s teammates, Zach Drotar, also went a best time to finish 7th in 1:04.67. That was almost exactly a 1 second drop from his previous best time.

On the women’s side, another Southeastern Swim Club swimmer Karly Boles was the high point winner. She beat out US Junior National Teamer Molly Sweeney of the Carmel Swim Club for that title, though Sweeney led all performers with four event wins (tied with teammate Grace Dougherty).

Individually, Sweeney won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.98, the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.92, and the 100 fly in 1:00.09. While the Tennessee commit hasn’t been a long course best time in a breaststroke race since 2023, those are both season bests for her.

She did pick up best times in the 100 free on a relay leadoff (57.05 – a 3.47 second improvement), the 100 back (1:04.56), and the 50 fly (27.75).

Other Notable Results:

  • Camden Bailey from the Southeastern Swim Club swam 23.32 in the 50 meter free on a relay leadoff. That ranks him 6th among 16-year-olds nationally this season (tied with Austin Temple from Tide Swimming in Virginia).
  • Jake Tarara from the Zionsville Swim Club, a Princeton commit, finished 2nd behind Mathias in the 50 free in a best time of 23.10. That knocked .31 seconds off his previous best time from last summer.
  • 15-year-old Brenley Bonez from the Duneland Swim Club had a strong meet, finishing 3rd in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.32 (a 1.91 second improvement), winning the 50 breaststroke (32.51), and adding a best time in the 200 breast (2:40.86).
    • Maddie Moreth from the Valparaiso Swim Club finished 2nd in the 100 breast between Sweeney and Bonez.

Part of my plan is to bring GA swimmers to Indiana so they can lean from the best. The east coast coaching is behind the times.
Hail to old IU!

Given her scratches I’d say it has something to do with mental state rather than fitness
