While the United States continues to dominate the swimming medal table at the 2025 World University Games, the battle is brewing for the rest of the top 5 nations four days into the competition.
Kennedy Noble and Leah Shackley made it a 1-2 stars n’ stripes finish in the women’s 100m back while Ben Delmar reaped gold for the U.S. in the men’s 200m breast.
Jack Dahlgren and Mason Laur produced respective gold and bronze in the men’s 200m fly with the American day four haul topped off by a women’s 4x200m free relay gold.
But Italy will not go away, bumping itself up from 6th to now 4th, tied with Japan behind Neutral Athletes and China.
Ivan Giovannoni and Davide Marchello helped the Italian cause by earning silver and bronze in the men’s 1500m freestyle.
Taipei and Hong Kong entered the standings, courtesy of Wang Kuan-hung‘s (TPE) 200m fly silver and Adam Mak‘s (HKG) silver in the 200m breast.

Some people are surprised by the depth of American swimming. Not me.The world is actually pretty lucky right now that many of the most talented swimmers (Summer Mcintosh,Leon Marchand etc.) are spread around the world. These stars of swimming skewer the medal tables. If the tables turn and the USA gets more lucky, they could turn international meets into a virtual turkey shoot.Countries should consider whether this meet serves any real purpose for them.If they’re chasing medals then this setup is not ideal.
Kind of shocking to see this medal table but I guess this just speaks to the depth of US Swimming. I’m not expecting to see a repeat of this table at the WCs.
Not surprising at all imo… USA by far has the best 2nd/3rd tier depth
