The third annual Jon Urbanchek Invitational honored the late Jon Urbanchek. Urbanchek started his coaching career in Southern California at Garden Grove High School. In 1964, he co-founded the Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team (FAST) in Fullerton, California.
The meet featured Santo Condorelli. Condorelli is set to represent the US at the 2025 World Championships later this month in Singapore. Condorelli has also represented Canada and Italy at the international level.
Condorelli only raced the 50 freestyle, swimming a 22.39 in prelims and a 22.13 in finals for the win. He swam lifetime bests 21.87 in prelims and a 21.68 in finals to finish 2nd in the event at US Summer Nationals to punch his ticket to Singapore. He has been under 22 eight times in his career. With his win, Condorelli set new pool and meet records.
Also highlighting the meet was Ian Pickles. Pickles swam to a 1:51.20 200 free in his win. Pickles swam the event at US Nationals, finishing 34th in a 1:50.31.
The girls side of the meet was highlighted by Alyssa Ton. Ton swam to a 2:04.53 in the 200 free as well as a 4:25.15 to win the 400 free. Ton finaled in the 200 free (2:01.53) and 200 IM (2:19.83) at US Summer Nationals.
Bianca Nwaizu also highlighted the girls side, swimming to a 1:11.85 in the 100 breast final for the win. She was slightly faster in prelims with a 1:11.55. The 15 year old finaled in all three breaststroke events at US Summer Nationals finishing 25th in the 50 (32.29), 23rd in the 100 (1:11.37), and 31st in the 200 (2:38.10). Her lifetime best in the 100 breast is a 1:10.11.
