Alex & Gretchen Walsh Reflect on Each Others’ US Nationals Swims, NCAA Careers

For much of their swimming career, Alex Walsh and Gretchen Walsh have gotten to do it together. Whether it’s winning high school state championships, going to college and fueling a full-blown dynasty, or competing at the Paris Olympics, the Walsh sisters have been side-by-side.

Now, they are ending their time in the NCAA and starting their pro careers together, too. Coming off of the National Championships in Indianapolis that saw both sisters qualify for the World Championships in Singapore, SwimSwam spoke to the dynamic duo about past, present, and future.

It’s very nice to see 2 sisters so supportive of each other.

It’s not about kindness, it’s about honesty. If you had to rank WRs, would Gretchen’s be on your top 10 list?

While I am open to a conversation about world record ranking, what does that have to do with a comment about sisters supporting each other?

Gretchen has how many WRs, yet she’s still boring.

Yeah, she should juggle or ride a unicycle or do that backward talk thing like on Twin Peaks. I heard Summer can do that!

I think Oh Canada is jealous Gretchen has a bf bc he thought he had a chance 😕. He’s giving bitter jealousy

Oh Canada

Nothing to do with jealousy. It’s something to do with them thinking they’re better than they are.

Juggling on a uni might do it for me.

I wonder how much of the “negativity” Summer’s fans complain she receives here is actually backlash to them bashing other swimmers for no reason.

No fault to her but her stans are truly unhinged. The Sleep Paralysis Demon account comes to mind.

Pretty sad you miss the excitement Gretchen and Alex bring to the pool. I love Summer and enjoy her swims tremendously. Your tiresome child-like responses are unimaginative and not funny.

What does this have to do with Summer? It’s not her fault Alex is a sore loser.

Everyone on the US team is more exciting than the Walsh sisters.

Alex has never “lost” she’s had a few setbacks and continuously gets back up again which I think says a lot about her

Dude, Summer is a robot. But we love her, and the Walshes. Don’t understand your issues.

Gretchen did well at the end to recognize that Singapore is a city as well as country. Also an island, the only place in the world carrying that trifecta.

Alex was a bad sport after she lost the 2IM in Paris. She didn’t congratulate Summer and then made it all about her when she was DQ’d. I was shocked by her behavior. I understand when she touched the wall she knew she’d be DQ’d – and that was tough for her – but ignoring Summer was a bad look.

Hard disagree. She may have been worried in the moment knowing that they were reviewing her race on the biggest stage and didn’t congratulate Summer. She may have later, what do you know? She kept her composure in front of the cameras and has been nothing but humble since – didn’t make excuses, she said she saw the video and agreed with the call. If you’re shocked by that you must make a habit of clutching your pearls. I wonder what you would do if you messed up the biggest race of your career in front of the entire world, when you were 22 years old? Easy to cast stones from the comfort of your couch under a fake name.… Read more »

Summer will make Alex Washed look completely irrelevant in the 200 IM in a few weeks. The only relevant question: will Summer’s margin of victory be over or under 3 seconds?

Go Bucky

Summer will win the 400 IM and 400 free and possibly the 200 fly by 3 + seconds, too. What’s your point? She’s obviously on another level than pretty much everyone.

I’d say if I feel it, others do too. Some people aren’t interesting and these sisters are two of the dullest there are.

Watch the end of the race and you tell me. You’re supposed to congratulate your fellow swimmers in the water. Y’all should be embarrassed by her behavior.
