ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Following the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championships, the Washington & Jefferson College women’s water polo team will travel back to Rock Island, Ill. for the 2025 USA Water Polo Collegiate Division III National Championship Tournament to be held at Augustana College (May 3-4).
In the Week 12 polls (April 9), W&J ranked ninth in the 2025 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 and third in the 2025 Women’s Varsity CWPA Division III Top 5.
W&J downed Division III No. 8 CWPA regular season runner-up Macalester College, 9-6, in the semifinals to make the title tilt. The Presidents fell short in the title game against Augustana at the CWPA Division III Championship and posted their seventh runner-up mark (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2025).
However, the title game is a potential steppingstone on the ascension of W&J to the top of the CWPA Division III ranks as the team most recently finished fourth (2018, 2024), 10th (2019) and sixth (2022, 2023) at the championship in recent seasons. The Presidents did not compete at the championship in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
W&J will compete against the championship victor from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The SCIAC Championship will take place next week (April 22, 24 and 26) to determine the Presidents’ opponent.
