GIRLS’ RECAP
200 Back
The top performances of the day on the girls’ side came in the 200 backstroke, where Nation’s Capital (NCAP) teammates Alyssa Sagle and Sadie Buckley went 1-2 and hit a pair of best times to climb the all-time rankings in the girls’ 15-16 age group.
Sagle, 16, used a fast opening 50 (25.96) to hold off Buckley for the win in a time of 1:51.73, lowering her previous best of 1:52.02 to move up to 15th all-time in the girls’ 15-16 age group.
Buckley, 15, dropped more than a second from her best time in 1:51.99, moving her to #21 in the all-time rankings for 15-16 girls, surpassing her previous best of 1:53.14.
Both Sagle and Buckley set their previous best times at the U.S. Open in December.
1650 Free
At the beginning of the session in the girls’ 1650 free, Long Island Aquatic Club’s (LIAC) Alex Siegel rolled to a six-second win in a time of 16:21.89, knocking more than 11 seconds off her previous best of 16:33.20. The swim her ranks her 4th this season among 15-year-old girls.
Corvallis Aquatic Team’s Zayda Miehl, also 15, was the runner-up in 16:27.90, dropping more than 10 seconds off her old best of 16:38.40.
100 Free
Duke commit Tierney Lenahan was a step ahead of the field in the girls’ 100 free, producing the fastest opening (23.30) and closing 50s (25.25) to finish 1st in a time of 48.55, lowering her previous best of 48.79 set in November.
Sarah Paisley Owen, the youngest swimmer in the ‘A’ final at 16, held off Molly Workman to touch 2nd in 49.23, with Workman close behind in 49.38. Both swimmers are coming off setting new lifetime bests, with Paisley Owen clocking 48.47 in February and Workman going 48.85 just a few days ago at the PIAA 3A State Championships.
50 Fly
The 50 fly was a dead-heat for the win and for 3rd place, with Rocket Aquatics’ Julia Saxman and Huntsville Swim Association’s Abby Chan producing matching 23.96s for the victory, with Chan having been significantly quicker in the prelims, setting a new best time of 23.73.
Saxman, a Denver commit, also set a new PB, with her finals swim marking her first time sub-24.
Tying for 3rd were Aquajets’ Sigrid Nymo and New Albany’s Leah Nebraska in 24.25–the two also posted the same time in the prelims at 24.47.
200 Medley Relay
A blazing 22.14 anchor from Rebecca Rentz led the Academy Bullets to victory in the girls’ 200 medley relay, finishing in a time of 1:39.14 as Rentz ran down the Nasa Wildcats (1:39.48).
Joining Rentz on the winning team were Avery Luedke (25.14), Brooke Corrigan (27.93) and Isabelle Beu (23.98) on back, breast and fly.
The runner-up Nasa Wildcats featured Lenahan (24.79), Grace Koenig-Song (27.68), Zara Bolton (24.09) and Marin Shimkus (22.92).

BOYS’ RECAP
Headlining the boys’ meet was Huntsville Swim Association’s Luke Bedsole, who doubled up with wins in the 100 free and 50 fly.
100 Free
Bedsole, a 17-year-old Auburn commit, first won the 100 free holding off NCAP’s Josh Howat (43.41) to finish in a time of 43.30, just under four-tenths shy of his lifetime best of 42.91 set at Winter Juniors – East.
Howat, a UVA commit, set a new best time, while Highland Hurricanes’ Josh Bey set a pair of massive PBs, first going 44.13 in the prelims before taking 3rd in the final in 43.53. Bey came into the meet with a best time of 46.10.
50 Fly
Bedsole followed up by winning the 50 fly in 21.38 after setting a personal best time of 21.15 in the prelims. He came into the meet with a PB of 21.28 set last month.
Hinsdale Swim Club’s Henry Guo was the runner-up in 21.56, though the second-fastest time of the night came from Aquajets Swim Team’s Micah Davis, who blasted a time of 21.52 in the ‘B’ final.
200 Back
Another highlight of the opening day was what Luke Vatev did in the 200 back, as the 15-year-old clocked 1:42.87 in the prelims and then got down to 1:42.72 in the final, ranking him 14th all-time in the boys’ 15-16 age group.
Note: Vatev has an unverified 1:42.72 swim set in late February listed on SwimCloud. Not including that, his previous best stood at 1:45.49, set on March 9 at the Illinois Senior Championships.
In addition to ranking #14 all-time in the 15-16 age group, Vatev ranks 2nd this season, only trailing TAC Titans’ Davis Jackson (1:41.91).
NOVA of Virginia’s Nathan Szobota posted a quicker time than Vatev’s finals swim in the prelims, clocking 1:42.00 to drop nearly two seconds off his previous best of 1:43.73 set in December. The swim ranks him 4th this season among 17-year-old boys.
Szobota went on to place 2nd in the final in 1:42.91, while Rockville Montgomery’s Griffin Oehler took 3rd in 1:43.03, a swim that ranks the 16-year-old 20th all-time in the 15-16 age group.
1000 Free
After his younger sister won the 1650 free, LIAC’s Will Siegel followed up by winning the boys’ 1000 free, clocking 9:04.31 to dismantle his previous best of 9:11.26 set in December 2023. Siegel, 17, is committed to Michigan for this coming fall.
Cor Swimming’s Evan Gluck was a close runner-up in 9:05.22, and LIAC 16-year-old James Darcy rounded out the top three in 9:06.55 as both swimmers set sizeable new best times.
200 Medley Relay
The Nasa Wildcats closed out a relatively comfortable win in the boys’ 200 medley relay, as Gustav Koh (22.81), Stuart Timmerman (24.83), Ethan Chung (21.20) and Aidan Kaplan (19.48) combined for a winning time of 1:28.32.
The Aquajets Swim Team placed 2nd in 1:29.06, with a notable 20.98 fly split from Micah Davis.
Other notable splits include Elliot Rijnovean on back (22.04) for Atlantis Swimming, Matthew Wolfe on breast (24.44) for NOVA of Virginia, and Luke Bedsole on free (19.44) for Huntsville.
