The 3rd day of the 2025 MVC Championships saw Southern Illinois retake the lead from Indiana State. Though the Salukis are now in 1st, Indiana State is only 10 points behind.
Northern Iowa put up a huge performance to end Friday night’s session, taking the 200 free relay in 1:30.74. Faith Larsen (22.34), Abby Lear (22.82), Waren Graeve (22.79), and Morgan Meyer (22.79) combined for a 1:30.74, touching out Indiana State, who set a new program record with their time of 1:30.81. Of note, Little Rock was right there as well, taking 3rd in 1:30.83. Northern Iowa’s performance marked a new championship record, downing the old mark of 1:30.89, which UNI set at last year’s meet. They were, however, just off the conference record, which this same relay set back in the fall with a 1:30.71.
Southern Illinois’ Celia Pulido took the 100 fly in 52.25, setting a new conference record with the swim. She was out in 24.19, coming home in 28.06. Illinois State’s Mia Snow put up a great swim as well, taking 2nd in 52.81.
Pulido pulled off the double on the day, winning the 100 back as well. She clocked a 51.74 in finals after swimming a 51.66 in prelims. Her prelims performance marked a new championship record, while she was off the conference record, which she set with a 50.73 back in the fall.
Another Saluki, Olivia Herron, won the 100 breast in 1:00.24, breaking the championship record. She clipped the previous record, which was a 1:00.29, set last year. Herron did, however, narrowly miss her own conference record of 1:00.17, which she swam in the fall.
Indiana State picked up a win in the 200 free, where Claire Parsons clocked a 1:47.83. She didn’t take the lead until the final 50 but ended up winning the race by half a second.
Indiana State also earned a victory in the 400 IM, where Alexandria Cotter swam a 4:17.87. Cotter took the lead on breaststroke and grew it through the last 100 of the race.
