New Paltz Results for RIT and Geneseo at Tri-Meet

MEN

The State University of New York at New Paltz men’s swimming team lost to SUNY Geneseo, 233-117, and the Rochester Institute of Technology, 226-115, following the second and final day of competition at a tri-meet hosted by Geneseo from Friday-Saturday.

New Paltz drops to 0-5 overall and next faces SUNY Cortland on Friday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. in Cortland, N.Y. Geneseo rises to 4-1 overall and challenges Monroe Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m. on the road. RIT advances to 4-4 overall and matches up next with Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m.

Sophomore Rod Taskindoust (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) posted two top-six finishes, touching third in the 200 freestyle (1:50.00) and sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:16.97). In the 500 freestyle, he scored fourth-place points due to the fact that Geneseo marked its entries in that event as exhibition. Senior Matt Distler (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) took second in the 100 freestyle (50.21), while junior Jack Spader (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) scored second-place points in the 500 freestyle (5:09.76). Spader really touched fourth overall, but Geneseo’s top-two finishers swam exhibition. Freshman Thomas Whittico (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) touched fifth—and third-place points—in the 500 freestyle (5:12.64), while sophomore Ryan Lindgren (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston) and freshman Rob Cahn (Bellmore, N.Y./Bellmore JFK) placed sixth in the 50 freestyle (23.98) and the 200 butterfly (2:11.97), respectively.

New Paltz capped the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Taskindoust, freshman Luke Zenir (Cherry Valley, N.Y./Cooperstown Central), sophomore Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and Distler combined to go a 3:24.13. The Hawks scored second-place points in that event since Geneseo’s relays all were tagged as exhibition.
