Clendenin, Smith win Atlantic-10 weekly honors

George Mason junior William Clendenin and Duquesne senior Meghan Smith were named Atlantic-10 Performers of the Week in Swimming and Diving this week.

Clendenin swam at the Orange Bowl Classic in Key Largo, Florida, taking third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.65 to help George Mason finish third overall. Clendenin also put up a top-8 finish in the 400 free.

Smith won two events and took second in another at the FIU Sprint Invitational. She went 1:06.16 to win the 100 breast, 59.92 for the 100 IM crown and added a runner-up 58.14 in the 100 fly.

George Mason swept the Rookie of the Week awards with freshmen Zepher Begnell and Steff Maurer. Begnell was a part of two George Mason relays at the Orange Bowl Classic, finishing 4th and 5th. He also added a top-8 finish in the 50 free, tying for 7th.

Maurer took 4th place in three races at the Orange Bowl. She went 59.77 in the 100 free and swam on both George Mason relays that took 4th overall.
