Annika Parkhe Breaks 2:00 Mark For First Time With 1:59.10 200 Free On Night 1 in Minneapolis

2024 FUTURES CHAMPIONSHIPS- MINNEAPOLIS

The women’s 200 freestyle highlighted night 1 of Futures in Minneapolis. Stanford commit Annika Parkhe led the way breaking the 2:00 mark for the first time as she earned the win in a 1:59.10.

Parkhe’s previous best time stood at a 2:01.01 from March at the Pro Series stop in Westmont. Her best time coming into the season was a 2:01.45 from summer 2022 as she swam a season best 2:03.23 at Futures last summer.

Teagan O’Dell finished 2nd behind Parkhe in a 2:00.89. O’Dell has a best time of a 1:59.15 that she swam in Febraury. O’Dell and Parkhe are notably in SwimSwam’s top 20 ranked high school recruits as Parkhe is #17 in the class of 2024 while O’Dell is #2 in the class of 2025. Also in the top 20 finishing on the podium in the 200 free tonight was Maggie Wanezek who posted a 2:01.32, faster than her previous best of a 2:02.04 from May.

Nebraska’s Jojo Randby swam to a win in the 100 breast in a 1:09.31, 0.09 faster than her old best time that she swam just two weeks ago. Randby notably was 39th in a 1:10.38 at US Trials but her time from today would have been 22nd.

The women’s 200 fly was the final win of the night as 16 year old Taylor Klein won in a 2:14.22, just out touching Annemarie Vlaic who swam a 2:14.36. Klein dropped over two and a half seconds off her previous best of a 2:16.97 that she swam in May.

The 800 free was also contested on the women’s side as Avery Luedke won in a 8:56.71, finishing just ahead of Charlotte LePage who swam a 8:57.03. Luedke, a Tennessee commit, dropped about a second and a half off her best time while LePage also dropped about a second and a half.

Western Athletic Conference Champion from Wyoming Quinn Cynor swam to a win in the men’s 200 free touching in a 1:51.20. His best time stands at a 1:49.65 from Illinois State meet last summer. Despite being off his best time, he was faster today than he was at US Trials as he swam a 1:51.38 for 51st then.

Princeton commik Jiarui Xue swam to a win in the men’s 1500 free touching in a 15:42.77. He was about four and a half seconds off his best time but still earned the win by five seconds.

17 year old Finnley Conklin won the 100 breast in a 1:02.29, just tenths off his best time of a 1:01.97 that he swam at the end of last summer.

Tennessee commit Aidan Hill swam to a 2:01.46 in his win in the 200 fly. This was 0.11 seconds slower than he was in prelims but he notably still swam a personal best as his best time coming into the day was a 2:02.13 from last summer’s Junior Nationals.

It should be mentioned the fire alarm went off while the D final of the 200 fly was getting ready to get on the blocks. They evacuated the building and everyone was outside for a good 10 minutes while everything was checked and cleared.

Luedke saw the 3 body length lead she had built by 400 slowly shrink again over the next 300 until it looked like she and LePage flipped at the 750 together. Both charged home with Luedke finally getting some separation again over the last 15 meters. Great race.
