Daryn Wright (Plainfield, Ind./West Lafayette, Ind.) is headed to Paris.

World Aquatics notified USA Diving on Thursday that it was awarded a second women’s 10-meter quota spot for the Olympic Games.

Wright finished second on 10-meter at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday, but a spot on the team was not guaranteed.

“It has been a long four days, but thankfully it came out on top with the good news. I’m pretty much just shocked right now to say the least. I’m very, very excited and emotional, but very shocked,” Wright said.

“It was hard because I didn’t necessarily know the odds, if they were good or not, just because it had taken so long to see if we had the second spot. My mind was racing in probably every possible direction, but I’m glad today was good.”

Wright was surprised by friends and family at Purdue University’s aquatic center on Thursday morning.

“It was very special. Obviously it’s not the same experience as everyone else (at trials), but them showing up and being there for me was everything,” Wright said.

Countries earned guaranteed quota spots with top-12 finishes at the World Aquatics Championships in 2023 and 2024. Delaney Schnell (Tucson, Ariz.), who won the trials on Sunday, finished sixth at the 2023 World Championships to secure one guaranteed spot for the U.S.

A maximum of 136 divers may compete in the Olympic Games. Quota places may be reallocated to the next highest placing federations from the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024 not yet qualified, to the extent that the aggregate of all entries (synchronized diving and individual diving) does not exceed 136. USA’s Katrina Young finished 20th on 10-meter at the 2024 World Championships.

Great news. Does anyone know if World Aquatics granted a 2nd spot for Men’s Platform?
