Aggies Beat Cardinals in Cross-State Season Opener

In its inaugural dual meet as a NCAA Division I team, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Cardinals hosted the Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team at the Ann Barshop Natatorium on the UIW campus in San Antonio, TX on Thursday, October 17.

This was the season-opener for both teams, and their first time meeting with both teams as NCAA Division I members.

The visiting Texas A&M started the meet by winning the 200 medley relay with solid swims from Alex Theocharidis, Jack Burley, Henrik Lindau and Kyle Troskot. UIW’s foursome of Andrii Nikishenko, Rostik Fedyna, Daniel Torres and Evandro Silva was only .32 behind

Aggie distance star Omar Enriquez, who holds the school record in the 1000, took the event in 9:30.68. Mitch Glander of A&M came in second; Connor Hennessy of UIW was third.

Mateo Muzek of A&M took the 200 free in 1:40.92 with teammate Paul-Marc Schweitzer right on his heels, finishing a close second in 1:41.06. UIW’s Evandro Silva wasn’t too far off the leaders with his 1:41.47 third-place finish.

Aggies took the 100 back with a 1-2 finish. Henrik Lindau won with 50.67, just a millisecond ahead of Alex Theocharidis’s 50.68. Andrii Nikishenko of UIW finished third with 50.98.

The breaststroke events belonged to the host team, as Cardinals’ Rostik Fedyna (56.65) and Thiago Parravicini (57.06) went 1-2 in the 100 with a comfortable margin over Aggie Jack Burley (58.34).

Omar Enriquez of Texas A&M won his second event of the day in the 200 fly. His in 1:53.51 was .6 seconds in front of teammate Hayden Duplechain and 1.1 ahead of Cardinal David Moore.

The Aggies took the entire podium in the 50 free, finishing 1-2-3 with Kyle Troskot (20.76), Cory Bolleter (21.05), and Or Sabatier (21.44).

It was a repeat performance for Texas A&M in the 1-meter. Adam Ruiz won, followed by teammates Ford McLiney and Colton Haffey.

The host Cardinals fared a little better in the 100 free, with a second-place finish from Evandro Silva. Aggies Henrik Lindau (46.11) and Or Sabatier were first and third, respectively.

UIW record-holder Andrii Nikishenko took the 200 back in 1:50.20, followed by Paul-Marc Schweitzer and Alex Theocharidis of Texas A&M.

The Cardinals’s most impressive event of the afternoon was the 200 breast where they swept 1-2-3. School record-holder Thiago Parravicini went 2:04.91 for first; Rostik Fedyna was second in 2:05.76, and David Moore was third with 2:10.34.

Aggie Omar Enriquez scored his hat trick with a victory in the 500 free (4:35.52). UIW’s Connor Hennessey was second and A&M’s Mitch Glander was third.

A&M teammates Kyle Troskot and Henrik Lindau went 1-2 in the 100 fly, with 50.45 and 51.03, respectively. Cardinals’ Jorge Escarcego took third in 52.07.

The Aggies sweep the 3 meter spring board: Adam RuizColton HaffeyFord McLiney.

Fresh off his third-place finish in the 200 breast, freshman David Moore swam a 4:01.93 to take the 400 IM, the cracking the UIW Top Ten list with his first swim. Teammate Daniel Torres finished second in 4:15.67 and A&M’s Robbie Morris was third in 4:18.48.

With the Aggies exhibitioning their 200 free relay teams, the top 2 scoring relays both belonged to UIW. The winning time of 1:24.52 was swim by Alex Brouwer, Scott Jonsson, Kaulen Applin, and Thiago Parravicini.

The meet ended with a final score of Texas A&M 179, University of the Incarnate Word 114.
