ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.— The St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving team celebrated their four seniors on Saturday afternoon in the Reilly Center Pool and the Bonnies sent their senior class out with a win in their final home meet by topping Gannon, 195-103. The day kicked off with Kylie McKee sweeping the diving events. The junior posted scores of 226.35 and 227.63 in the 1 and 3-meter dive respectively to earn the first two wins of the day for Bona’s. The Bonaventure quartet of Allison Lenda, Beth Thomas, Silvana Cabrera and Halle Myers were victorious in the 200-medley relay, their time of 1:44.35 securing a four second victory. Kathryn Beyer and Ellie Kraus finished took the top two spots in the 200-freestyle for the Bonnies. Beyer touched the wall in 1:51.62 to edge out her teammate by a little over three seconds. The Bona’s domination rolled over into the next event as well with Lenda, Daciana Colon and Eylul Alli sweeping the podium in the 100-backstroke. Lenda posted a time of 56.11, while Colon finished in 56.59 in her debut with the Bonnies. Thomas etched her second victory of the afternoon in the 100-breastroke touching the wall in 1:05.54. Teammate Kathryn Lyons was not too far behind as the runner-up with a time of 1:08.47. Silvana Cabrera (2:02.75) continued her strong season as she cruised to a nine-second triumph in the 200-butterfly. Myers, meanwhile, took the 50-freestyle with a time of 23.29. Nele Vetter earned runner-up in the 50-free for the Bonnies. A trio of Bona’s swimmers were in a photo finish for the win in the 100-freestyle. Amy O’Rourke narrowly beat Kraus by four-hundredths of a second with Beyer only 19-hundreths behind. O’Rourke touched the wall in 51.71. Colon continued her stellar debut earning her first victory as a Bonnie in the 200-backstroke. The freshman transfer clocked in at 2:04.13 with teammates Alli and Maggie Holst not far behind to sweep the top three for the Brown and White. Thomas and Lyons continued to match each other, this time in the 200-breaststroke. Thomas clocked in 2:26.02 for her third triumph of the day, while Lyons posted 2:29.75. Cabrera tacked on her second win of the day, this time in the 100-butterfly. The junior posted a time of 55.44, just barely squeaking past Myers who finished at 55.46 for second place. Thomas capped off her career-day with a fourth victory in the 200-IM with a time of 2:11.86 for the Brown and White, while in the day’s final event Myers, Beyer, O’Rourke and Kraus teamed up to win the 400-freestyle relay at 3:26.21.
Prior to the meet, Lenda, Thomas, Maria Mangini, and Mary Wilson were honored for their four years of hard work and dedication to the program.
The Bonnies will next travel to the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships. The four-day conference championship meet will begin Wednesday, Feb. 15 and conclude Saturday, Feb. 18.

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Along with honoring five seniors in the Reilly Center Pool, the St. Bonaventure University men’s swimming and diving team recorded a pair of records set by freshman Ben Giera and junior Maxwell Murray as part of a victory Saturday afternoon against Gannon.
The Bonnies secured a 181-119 triumph over the Golden Knights in their final dual-meet of the season.
Giera kicked off the afternoon by setting a new school record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 342.98, surpassing Zyad Morsy’s score of 335.60 set last season at the A-10 Invitational.
The first-year diver delivered another win in the 3-meter dive (338.63), while fellow divers Lucas Dekaney and Ben O’Neill both finished second and third respectively in the 1- and 3-meter dives.
Murray was able set his own school and pool record in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 9:16.31, breaking the mark posted by George Eversmann when he swam a time of 9:28.08 in 1997.
The Penfield, N.Y. native scored another victory in the 500-freestyle (4:33.02) and finished second in the 100-backstroke (50.30).
Freshman Luigi Termine paced the Bonnies in the 100-backstroke, swimming a time of 49.98.
St. Bonaventure registered top two finishes in the 100-breaststroke with Nicholas Nakaya placing first (56.16) and teammate Knute Wargin finishing right behind him (57.20).
Nakaya’s event win marked a streak of three victories in a row for the Bonnies as Alexander Behr finished atop the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:48.47 and Kyle Gluck swam a time of 20.90 to win the 50-freestyle.
Behr notched his second victory of the day by touching the wall in a time of 48.13 in the 100-butterfly.
Freshman Henry Wilkes won the 200-backstroke with a time of 1:53.77, while Termine placed second in this event (1:53.97).
In the 200-freestyle senior Tomas Botero placed second with a time of 1:42.28, while junior Tommy White earned a runner-up finish in the 50-freestyle with a time of 21.39.
Teddy Murphey finished second with a time of 2:05.56 in the 200-breaststroke, while Patrick Heldreth deliver a runner-up finish in the 100-freestyle (46.97).
The Bonnies 200-medley relay team of Termine, Nakaya, Behr, and Gluck touched the wall in a time of 1:30.13 for the victory.
Prior to the meet, Nakaya, Botero, Nicholas Torre, Griffin Witte, and Joshua Bannon were honored for their four years of hard work and dedication to the program.

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Gannon University women’s swimming and diving team won three events—Kyla Miller (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) in three-meter diving as well as Madalyn Myers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) in the 500 and 1000 free —and notched a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 IM and 400 freestyle relay but could not overcome Division I St. Bonaventure in Saturday’s dual meet, 195-103.
The meet began early in the morning with both one-meter and three-meter diving events. Gannon’s Kyla Miller (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) claimed victory in the three-meter portion with a total of 208.43. Alexandra Briggs (Newark, N.Y./Newark Senior High) (172.50, third place) and Nicole Spiegel (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) (143.63, fourth) were Gannon’s other finishers on the three-meter boards. Miller finished in second place in the one-meter event with a score of 210.98, not too far behind St. Bonaventure’s Kylie McKee (first place, 226.35.) Briggs (153.68, fourth) and Spiegel (142.88, fifth) again rounded out the event.
The Knights were dominant in the distance events on the day, beginning in the 1000 freestyle with a 1-2 finish by Madalyn Myers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) (time of 10:44.05) and Sterre van de Goor (Oss, Netherlands/Sint-Joriscollege) (10:46.86.) Myers added another victory in the 500 free in 5:12.49, leading two other Golden Knights (Chenay Date Line’s (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College Sandton) 5:16.47 and van de Goor’s 5:20.56) in a sweep of the top three positions.
Freshman Isabella Dietz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) swam an incredible race in the 200 IM (2:11.92), finishing in second place—just six hundredths of a second behind the Bonnies’ Beth Thomas and her time of 2:11.86.
The relay team of Lily Cunningham (Lavista, Neb./Papillion-La Vista), Nomvula Mjimba (Harare, Zimbabwe/The Wykeham Collegiate), Irati Arzalluz (Lasarte-Oria, Spain/Santo Tomas Lizeoa), and Date Line also claimed a second-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:36.43.
The Golden Knights now begin to ramp up preparations for the PSAC Championships, taking place from Feb. 15-18 at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. The Knights’ diving contingent is scheduled to compete at the Rich Sentner Diving Invitational at Westminster College (Pa.) on Saturday, Feb. 4.

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The No. 24-ranked Gannon University men’s swimming and diving team claimed victory in five events and runner-up finishes in five other events but dropped Saturday’s dual meet to Division I St. Bonaventure, 181-119. Stephen McCallum (Cape Town, South Africa/Wynberg Boys’) notched a pair of first-place finishes in the 200 free (time of 1:41.38) and the 100 free (46.22) to pace the Golden Knights, with Aidar Sataev (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan/Forest Hill) picking up a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.45) and Will Retsch (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) taking first in the 200 IM in 1:54.50.
Sataev’s swim in the 200 breast was extremely close, with St. Bonaventure’s Teddy Murphey finishing just 11 hundredths of a second behind. Retsch was joined by teammate Hiyan Kubagawa (Sao Paulo, Brazil/) in the 200 IM to secure the 1-2 finish, with Kubagawa touching the wall about a second behind in 1:55.62.
The Knights also went 1-2 in the 400 freestyle relay event, with Will Moses (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake), Justin Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum), Joey Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum), and McCallum earning the win in 3:08.31. The quartet of Alex Deemer (Connoquenessing, Pa./Butler Area), Connor Hebert (Damascus, Md./Damascus), Ben Williams (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay), and Andy Beyer were over three seconds behind (3:11.96) to claim second place.
Another impressive race for Gannon was the 200 fly, with David Gallion (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) (second place, 1:54.01), Kubagawa (third, 1:54.99), and Kaleb Lombard (Graaff-Reinet, South Africa/Grey College) (fourth, 1:56.93) all logging quality swims.

Gannon’s Kollin Schwab (Erie, Pa./McDowell) finished fourth in both events (with a total of 227.18 on the one-meter boards and 223.58 in three-meter diving) while Max Campbell (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Preparatory) was right behind in fifth place with a 198.15 in one-meter and 189.15 in three-meter.
