KINGSTON, RI. – The University of Connecticut women’s swimming and diving team took down the University of Rhode Island by a score of 190-105 Friday afternoon for their first victory in 2022.
The Huskies picked up in 2022 right where they left off 2021. The Huskies dominated in Rhode Island this afternoon placing first in 14 of 16 events. Sophomore Niamh Hofland continued her success in long distance events, placing first in the 1000-yard freestyle by 20 seconds with a time of 10:34.19. Early success was key for the Huskies as they would sweep the 100-yard backstroke. Senior Catherin Fazio would place first with a time of 58.87 followed by junior Caitlin Spencer 59.82 and sophomore Kayla Mendonca 1:00.69.
UConn’s divers also played a part in the success as freshman Julia Pioso would continue to dominate in the 1-meter diving placing first by over 20 points and sophomore Ana Laura Faoro would follow with a third-place finish of her own.

The Huskies will immediately travel to South Orange New Jersey to take on the Seton Hall Pirates Saturday January 15. The meet is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
