High school junior Lawson Ficken from Greenwood Village, Colorado has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at Auburn University beginning in the fall of 2023.

A sprint free and fly specialist, Ficken swims for Cherry Creek High School and University of Denver Hilltoppers. She was a top-8 finalist in the 50 free and 100 fly as a freshman at the 2020 Colorado High School Girls 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships. Last year, in her sophomore season, she was runner-up in the 50 free (23.32) and fourth in the 100 free (51.29). She also led off the runner-up 200 free relay (23.66) and the third-place 400 free relay (51.62), all of which contributed to Cherry Creek’s 5A state title.
Ficken had a big meet at Austin Sectionals in July, finaling in the 50 free (7th), 100 free (9th), and 100 fly (7th) and notching PBs in the LCM 50 free (26.23), 100 free (57.84), 200 free (2:10.95), and 100 fly (1:02.26) and qualifying for Speedo Summer Championships-West. In Irvine, she improved her 100 free time to 57.76.

Auburn is off to a quick start building the class of 2027. In addition to Ficken, Carissa Rinard, Olivia Dinehart, and Wyllo Hanson will join the Tigers in the fall of 2023.
