Michigan HS D3 Champ Tyler Ray Makes Verbal Commitment to In-state Wolverines

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tyler Ray from Pinckney, Michigan has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Michigan for the 2022-23 school year.

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to the University of Michigan where I will continue my academic and athletic career! I am so stoked to be a part of a program with so much history and so many achievements in and out of the pool! I recognize that I could not have fulfilled this dream without the help of my family, coaches, friends, teachers, and teammates to push me along the way! I also want to thank the U of M coaching staff for giving me this amazing opportunity! GO BLUE!!!”

A senior at Pinckney High School, Ray won the 100 fly (49.23) and was runner-up in the 100 back (51.09) at the 2021 Michigan High School D3 State Swimming and Diving Championships. Both times were personal bests. Ray has come a long way since his freshman year season when he placed 8th (53.60) and 12th (55.53) in the respective events.

He trains year-round with Club Wolverine and recently finaled in the 200m fly (10th) and 100m fly (26th) at Huntsville Futures. He left that meet with three new PBs in the 100 back (1:00.54), 100 fly (56.12), and 200 fly (2:03.63). Earlier in July, he swam at Eric Namesnik Memorial and notched PBs in the 50m free (24.74), 100m free (54.79), 200m free (1:59.29), and 200m IM (2:17.14).

SCY times:

  • 100 fly – 49.23
  • 200 fly – 1:52.23
  • 50 back – 27.99
  • 100 back – 51.09

Ray will join a Wolverine fly group that included seven sub-49s last year. He will overlap with River Wright (45.24), Charlie Morici (47.12), Cam Peel (47.28), Bence Szabados (47.34), and Andrew Trepanier (48.54). Also verbally committed to the class of 2026 are Kevin Maas, Logan Zucker, Lucas Hodgson, Matthew Kroll, and Ozan Kalafat.
