UC San Diego Women Host UCI For Key Regular Season Finale

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 10 UC San Diego water polo team will host No. T-7 UC Irvine in the final games of the regular season at Canyonview. They will play a crucial conference game on April 23 before playing a nonconference game the next day. Saturday’s game will also serve as senior day.

ATTENDING THE GAMES 
Per current COVID-19 safety guidelines and protocols implemented by UC San Diego, spectators are not permitted to attend home games at Triton Ballpark at this time. Each active UC San Diego scholar-athlete is permitted to admit two guests per contest. Scholar-athlete guests must be pre-registered and follow all campus safety guidelines including – but not limited to – health screening surveys, wearing masks that cover nose and mouth at all times, and proper physical distancing. UC San Diego reserves the right to deny entry to, or remove, guests who are not in compliance, and may amend this policy at any time. Due to current campus policy, student-athlete guests for visiting teams are not permitted

COVERING THE TRITONS
Media members wishing to cover a UC San Diego game in-person at Canyonview Aquatic Center this season must notify a member of the Athletics Communication staff no later than 24 hours before start of a contest. All media members will need to complete a UC San Diego symptom screening form on the day of game prior to arriving on campus.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to the start of Saturday’s game, the Tritons will honor Tera RichardsonSydney BolandGrace Pevehouse and Jessee Ransone.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tritons split games with LBSU last weekend, losing the conference game 15-14 but rebounding the next day with an 8-6 victory. Ciara Franke led the Tritons with a six-goal performance over the weekend.

WHAT’S AT STAKE THIS WEEKEND
A win over UCI on Friday will guarantee the number one seed in the Big West Tournaments as the Triton’s hold the head-to-head tie breaker with one-loss Hawai’i. If the Triton’s lose, seeding will depend on the results from the Hawai’i vs UC Davis game.

BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arroyo was named the Big West Player of the Week on April 14, marking the second time this season s has won the award. The freshman had a four-goal performance in the Triton’s win over UC Davis and sits in third in the conference with 19 goals on the season. Previously, Ciara Franke was named Big West Player of the Week on March 31 and Bennett Bugelli earned the honor on February 24.

USE CREDIT UNION TRITON ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Arroyo was named the USE Credit Union Athlete of the Week on April 12. Previously, Bennett Bugelli  was named Athlete of the Week on March 22, Arroyo was also named the Triton Athlete of the Week on March 15 and Ciara Franke earned the honor on March 1.

2020 BIG WEST SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Franke was named UC San Diego’s 2020 Big West Female Scholar-Athlete of the year. Each institution is awarded one male and female award winner. The award acknowledges their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom, and in their communities.

SIZING UP THE ANTEATERS
The Anteaters are 9-7 on the season and 1-2 in conference games. They are coming off playing four games over the course of two weekends against Hawai’i, all resulting in losses. UC San Diego played the Anteaters earlier in the season, struggling offensively in game one but responding the next day with a strong performance in a tight loss.

100 GOALS CLUB
Grace Pevehouse (162) and Ciara Franke (143) have scored over 100 goals in their careers. Next closest player is Jessee Ransone with 68.

RECORD WATCH

With 606 career saves, Bennett Bugelli ranks ninth all time. Currently, Kaitlin Foe ranks eighth with 634 saves.

HEAD COACH BRAD KREUTZKAMP
Kreutzkamp is in his 12th season as Head Coach of the women’s team. He has a career record of 244-166. With two more wins, he will overtake Denny Harper as winningest coach in program history.

The Tritons will host the Big West Tournament from April 30 – May 2 at Canyonview Aquatic Center. Winner will get an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Seeding for the tournament will be determined after the conclusion of conference games this weekend.
