Liberty honored its six seniors at Saturday’s TYR Senior Celebration Meet, downing Campbell by a score of 142-110.
Liberty finished the dual-meet portion of its 2020-21 season with a 3-0 record, with all three wins coming against CCSA opponents. This is Liberty’s second undefeated regular season in program history, as the Lady Flames went 15-0 in 2018-19. Campbell falls to 1-3-1 on the season.

Notable
• Liberty honored its six seniors – Arielle Arnett, Lindsey Cohee, Kiah Francis, Payton Keiner, Emily Manly and Emily Zimcosky – with a pre-meet ceremony.
• Liberty won every event contested, but scored diving and the final three swimming events as exhibitions.
• Liberty’s Jessica Schellenboom won three events, while Payton Keiner, Sydney Houtz and Hannah Huenefeld all earned two event wins. Houtz and Huenefeld both claimed their first collegiate individual-event victories this afternoon.
• Liberty posted a 1-2-3 showing in the 100 breaststroke (Schellenboom, Maggie Huenefeld, Cailin Carroll) and 100 butterfly (Houtz, Emmal Hazel, Alexis Plogger).
• Houtz made a strong comeback to win the 200 fly in 2:07.49.
• The closest race of the day was the 200 back, with Keiner out-touching Hazel at the wall for first, 2:01.97 to 2:02.03.
• Liberty contested diving as an exhibition event, as Campbell does not have divers. Lauren Chennault’s winning score of 300.00 for one-meter diving would have set a program record, while Maddie Freece’s winning three-meter score of 295.80 would have been good for second in program history in the event. With diving considered as an intrasquad event today, these scores will not count toward NCAA Zone qualification or official records.
Historically Speaking
• Harris’ 2:07.49 today is good for ninth in program history in the 200 fly.
• The Lady Flames continued their success in conference dual meets, winning their 24th CCSA dual meet in a row.
• Liberty is 14-0 all-time in dual meets at Liberty Natatorium. The Lady Flames have won 22 straight home dual meets. That is the third-longest active home winning streak in NCAA Division I women’s swimming & diving, trailing only Boise State (27) and Stanford (24).
• Liberty is 17-2 all-time against Campbell in swimming & diving, with the Lady Flames winning each of the last 16 meetings. Campbell is Liberty’s most-frequent opponent in program history.
Up Next
Liberty will host the 2021 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships. The Lady Flames will look for their third straight CCSA title, as the women’s meet takes place at Liberty Natatorium from Feb. 15-17. This will be the second time that Liberty Natatorium will serve as CCSA Championships host, as the 2019 conference meet also took place in Lynchburg.

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Liberty Flames proved to be too much for the Camels during Saturday’s dual meet, winning by a margin of 142-110 at the Liberty Natatorium.
It was a solid start for the Camels, when Maggie Whitman (11:02.64) and Avery Rogers (11:09.43) grabbed places two and three in the 1000 free.
Julia Sherlock picked up second place in the 100 back at a time of 58.59, and later grabbed a third-place finish in the 200 back at 2:08.08.
Simone Palomo and Skyler DeWall got on the podium together in the 200 fly, with times of 2:08.35 and 2:11.96, respectively.
Annie Sanchez had two second-place finishes in the freestyle sprints, going 24.56 in the 50 free, and 53.27 in the 100 free.
The finishing relays were good to the Camels. Maialen Sudupe finished second and Kristine Mikkelsen finished third in the 200 IM. The day concluded with a strong swim by the 400 Free Relay teams, taking second and third place with times of 3:33.93, and 3:42.55.
The Camels will return to action next Saturday, when they head to the coast to face UNC Wilmington. That one is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
