Marko Vujosevic Gives Verbal Commitment to In-state Longhorns for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Marko Vujosevic of Round Rock, Texas has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Texas class of 2025. He plans to graduate from Round Rock High School this spring, take a gap year, and start with Anthony Grimm, Kayde Cross, Luke Hobson, and Nathan Quarterman in the fall of 2021.

“I am honored to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Texas, class of 2025! I want to thank Coach Reese and Coach Collins for giving me this opportunity, Coach Mark and Marcy Parshall for preparing me so well, and my friends and family for the support. Hook ‘em!”

Vujosevic swims for his high school and for Aquatex Swim Team. He won the B final of the 100 breast with a lifetime best time of 56.92 at the 2020 Texas UIL 6A State Swimming and Diving Championships last month. He was a member of the All-American 200 medley relay squad and scored an All-American Consideration time in the breast. This season he received First Team All-State Academic Honors from The Texas High School Coaches Association and he expects to achieve USA Swimming Scholastic All-American status for the 2019-20 year.

Vujosevic has been improving rapidly. Already this spring he has notched PBs in the SCY 50/100 free, 100 back, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

  2019 2019 2020
100 free 50.22 47.96 46.75
100 back 54.34 52.51 49.69
100 breast 1:01.47 59.05 56.92
200 breast 2:18.99 2:12.31 2:07.28
100 fly 54.71 53.00 50.72
200 IM 2:02.18 1:56.92 1:53.31

The PBs in the 100 free, 100 back, and 200 IM came from 2020 American Short Course Championships last weekend where he was an A-finalist in the IM and a B finalist in the 50/100 free and 100 back.

Congrats Marko & family! One of the coolest kids I know and couldn’t have asked for a better team mate for #theflyingv to spend his time with all these years! When my kid was 9 and just moved to Texas a club head coach told him “You need to go watch TAGS and see what other 9-10 yos are doing!”. You were one of those ridiculously fast kids there that lit a fire under him and he never looked back! Glad you got to race, train and build a friendship together all these years! See you in the Texas pools, I know the best is yet to come from you!!

Marco is a hard worker and a good person. Glad to see things working with him at Aquatex. Psychodads comments can be off putting sometimes, but if you ever meet the man you will see he is a good person with a great heart.

I think sometimes fans can get caught up in the excitement of records and crazy fast times and forget the little things about this sport that change lives and teach people important skills and life lessons. It’s always nice to see any swimmer’s hard work pay off. Getting to swim at their dream school is a great accomplishment for any high school kid.

Thank you, Adam. He was lucky to have you teach him first strokes, then Nitro coaches to help him achieve early successes in TAGS, and then Aquatex coaches to be patient with him when he was physically weak to compete at the top level. Then he grew 12 inches in 2 years.

Times Posted are not very fast for a longhorn commit if I am being honest. However, Eddie has been known to make studs out of even the most regular looking kids. Best of luck to him!

True. But look at the trend lines. 100 breat: 1:01 (2018); :59 (2019); :56 (2020). 2IM is 2:02; 1:56.9; 1:53.
I’d take a flyer on that trajectory too (not to mention he’s taking a gap year)

I agree with swim geek. Those are very big drops in 2 years… either due to a huge growth spurt or only started really taking it seriously in 2018. Never the less, I wouldnt be suprised at all if we swim him at NCAAs in the coming years… Eddie Reese knows what hes doing.

Fair assessment. I will not comment on reasons Eddie took him or anything related to Texas swim team. I can only say that he will use gap year to get stronger working out with his brother (6’2”, 160 pounds and 4.6% body fat – he needs to get stronger), take few academic courses, and travel with me all over the world (accompanying me on my business), while attending Summer and Winter Juniors, and Futures meets. Now, I need to get him somehow down to earth. 🙂

The dreams do (sometimes) come true. The Texas Swim Center is only 15 miles from our home. With 4 swimmers, it is practically our second home.

Congrats! Just curious – does taking a gap year have anything to do with swimming?

Psychodad, tell your son to be ready for 100×100 @ 1:05 first week of practice.
