Croatian freshman Ogi Maric won the 200 free, 200 IM and 100 IM as UNLV paced its home invite for men and women.

Men’s Meet

On the men’s side, Maric was the big winner, and looks like a high-impact addition for the Runnin’ Rebels early in his career. The 19-year-old was 1:47.61 in the 200 IM and 1:36.61 in the 200 free, winning both by wide margins. Maric also went 49.43 to win the B final of the 100 back and won the 100 IM in 50.06.

He added in some big relay splits. 44.79 leading off the 400 free relay was probably the biggest, but Maric was also 20.33 leading off the 200 free relay and 22.63/49.32 leading off the 200 and 400 medley relays.

UNLV won three of the four relays, but Cal Baptist made a big push to win the 200 free and 200 medley relays. Cal Baptist also got wins from Sean Foster (55.32 in the 100 breast) and Quinn Birtles (1:47.69 in the 200 fly).

Fresno Pacific swept the sprints behind Dmitry Belolipetskiy‘s 20.02 and 43.96.

Other multi-event winners:

  • UNLV’s Ivan Zukov went 2:00.24 to win the 200 breast, and 3:54.53 to take the 400 IM.
  • His teammate Panos Bolanos swept the backstrokes in 48.78 and 1:45.96.

Women’s Meet

UNLV swept all five relays to win team points by more than 300. Sophomore Carissa Armijo and senior Katsiaryna Afanasyeva each won twice individually.

Armijo won the tough 500 free, 200 fly combo. She was 4:51.32 to win the 500 (a season-best by four tenths) and 2:00.74 to win the 200 fly (cutting four seconds from her season-best and coming within a second of a lifetime-best from way back in 2016. Afanasyeva, out of Belarus, won the 100 back in 54.01 and the 100 IM in 56.08.

University of the Pacific senior Angela Gagliardo was the big individual scorer, though. She won three races by huge margins. Gagliardo won the 200 IM (2:01.11), 400 IM (4:21.48), and 200 breast (2:12.95). In that 200 breast, she broke her own school record from last year, and the 200 IM was a new lifetime-best by eight tenths of a second.

The only other multi-event winner was Montse Moreno of UNLV, who swept both 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
