St. Francis College Brooklyn Sweeps Mount St. Mary’s

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – The St. Francis College Brooklyn Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving team concluded the meet on Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins over Mount St. Mary’s (MD). The win over the Mount for the men, was their first of the season. They came out on top by a final score of 153-137. The women concluded with a final score of 188-107 to give them their fourth win of the season.

To kick off this meet on Saturday, the women took first and second place in the 200-medley relay, making their presence well known to the opposition. Sophomore diver Kayla McKenzie also took first place in both of her diving events.

The men also took first place in the 200-yard medley relay, which would make a path way to their first win. Freshman Benedek Lendvai took first in the 1650-yard freestyle. Fellow freshman Steven Dawkins came in right behind him to take home a second-place victory.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Junior Beatriz Gomes Angelo took first place in the 1650-yard freestyle. The Brazil native posted a time of 17:51:32. Angelica Stark also had a great race and took second place right after gomes, putting up a time of 18:36.99
  • The trio of seniors, Raphaelle GregoireFanny Stromstedt and Lara Milak swept the 50-yard breaststroke. Gregoire swimming a 30:34, Stromstedt with a 30:21 and Milak completing with a 32.53.
  • Freshman Djordje Spasic also had a stand out performance in the 200-yard freestyle. He would post a season best of 1:46.64.
  • Matt Bernstein would win both of his respective events. Making this the second time in his career he obtained first place.
  • Alfred Christensson also took first in the 50-yard backstroke. Spasic also picked up an impressive second place win in the 100-yard freestyle.
  • Jovana Terzic and Tina Childress were the next two swimmers to steal first and second place in the 50-yard freestyle.
  • The women continued to dominate with another first, second and third place victory in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Swedish native, Stromstedt took home first place with a 1:07.89. Milak took second with 1:09.69 as a final time. Finally, for third place, Childress finished strong with a 1:13.56.
  • Benedek continued his success in the distance events with a win in the 500-yard freestyle. He would post a team best of 4:50.05. Spiro Goga followed him in with a 5:03.11 to take second.  Daniel Olsson Shirazi took third to complete the sweep.

UP NEXT:
The Terriers are back in action on Friday, November 2, against Monmouth in West Long Branch, NJ. The meet is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.

Brooklyn, N.Y. (November 2, 2019) – The Mount St. Mary’s men’s swimming & diving team was topped by St. Francis Brooklyn 153-136 in a tight contested meet on Saturday. The Mount women’s swimming & diving team suffered the same fate with a 188-107 loss to the Terriers at the Saint Francis Aquatic Center.

HIGHLIGHTS: MEN’S MEET

  • John Mata, Will Twizell, Thomas de Xavier, and Peter Jones finished 2nd in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.01
  • Andrew Jones finished 2nd in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.19
  • John Mata finished 2nd in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 25.30
  • Will Twizell finished 1st in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 27.51
  • John Wilson finished 2nd in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 28.28
  • Peter Jones finished 1st in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 53.79
  • Gregory Afolabi-Brown finished 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 54.22
  • Ryan Griffiths finished 1st in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.81
  • Brendan Flanagan finished 2nd in the one meter diving with a score of 198.30
  • Peter Jones finished 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 48.84
  • Ryan Griffiths finished 2nd in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 54.79
  • Will Twizell finished 1st in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.82
  • Ethan Pham finished 1st in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.73
  • John Wilson finished 2nd in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.73
  • Peter Jones, Gregory Afolabi-Brown, Brock Cudahy, and Ryan Griffiths finished 1st in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.44
