Australian Swim Teacher Arrested After Lost Phone Allegedly Had Illicit Content

An Australian aquatics director has been arrested and charged with possession of child abuse material after a phone left on a pool deck allegedly showed child pornography.

Nick Warby was the director of aquatic sports at the private Knox Grammar school in Sydney, Australia. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Warby was arrested this week after a colleague found the phone and discovered “inappropriate images” on it. The phone discovered on the pool deck started the investigation, and police also raided Warby’s home, finding ice, GHB (widely known as the date-rape drug) and “a number of mobile phones and USBs,” per the Herald.

Australia’s ABC News reports that police say some of the USB drives contained files that were “physically obtained” rather than downloaded from the internet.

The 30-year-old Warby was released on bail, but under strict orders not to access the internet or use smartphones or computers. He now faces charges of possession of child abuse material and two charges of possession of a prohibited drug. His lawyer said in court that Warby had cooperated with the investigation and had medical issues. He also denied owning a laptop found in his room.
