Georgia Tech Swim Club won its second consecutive national title at the 2019 FINIS College Club Swimming National Championship on March 29-31.
The meet drew nearly 1,900 swimmers representing 117 colleges across the country, including 19 schools that were competing at their first CCS Nationals. There were 36 new CCS records and 20 new national club meet records in the second year of the meet.
Club Swimming at Ohio State finished second with 1,132.5 points in its home pool, and Club Swim at the University of Virginia was third with 826.5 points. Ohio State won the men’s competition, and Georgia Tech won the women’s competition.
Highlights From Day One
- Georgia Tech’s women’s team dominated on March 29 by winning the 4×200 freestyle relay, the 400 individual medley, the 200 backstroke, and the 4×100 medley relay.
- Drexel University Club Swimming’s Tanja Kirmse, Minnesota Swim Club’s Amber Eckstein, and IU Swim Club’s Ashley Neidigh earned wins in the 200 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, and 500 freestyle, respectively.
- Ohio State won both relays and had Ryan Wagner win the 200 backstroke.
- Texas A&M University Club Swimming’s Mason Greenblatt (400 IM) and Nolan Persyn (200 butterfly) each picked up wins.
- IU’s Jayson Hansen and Florida Club Swim and Dive’s Ben Lawless won the 200 breaststroke and 500 freestyle, respectively.
Highlights From Day Two
- Georgia Tech picked up two more relay wins and two individual wins on the women’s side on Saturday. Lindsay Knapp and Alex Rieger won the 200 freestyle and 50 freestyle, respectively.
- Individual winners on the women’s side included Stanford’s Lindsey Engel (50 butterfly), Neidigh (200 IM and 100 backstroke), Ohio State’s Hannah Clinger (100 breaststroke), and IU’s Hannah Sakaluk (1000 freestyle).
- Ohio State’s men’s club won the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay and had individual winners in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke (Winston Kuriger).
- Persyn and Hansen added wins in the 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, respectively, and Lawless picked up wins in the 200 freestyle and 1000 freestyle. University of North Dakota Club Swimming’s Ivar Iverson won the 200 IM.
Highlights From Day Three
- Georgia Tech’s women’s team won the 200 freestyle relay and received individual wins from Rieger (100 IM), Knapp (100 freestyle), and Ellie Ridgeway (100 butterfly).
- Stanford’s Engel added another win in the 50 backstroke, and UCONN Swim Club’s Audrey Butler won the 50 breaststroke.
- Ohio State’s men’s team won the 200 freestyle relay and earned two individual wins from Kuriger (50 backstroke and 100 freestyle).
- Iverson won the 100 IM, Hansen the 50 breaststroke, and Persyn the 100 butterfly.
