BALTIMORE, Md. – In the final dual meet of the season, the Towson University women’s swimming and diving team defeated Loyola University (Maryland) 174-118 Wednesday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Towson saw a first place victory in the 200-yard medley relay with Meghan Jones, Jacki Schoening, Maddi Mangum and Ryan Ulrich with a time of 1:45.58.
- Teammates Haley Sutton, Kayln Fetter, Megan Cowan and Annemarie Schnoor saw third place in the same event with a time of 1:48.42.
- Suzannah Mills was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:40.73). Gabrielle Cervone finished in second (10:45.82).
- The Tigers saw a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle with Sarah-Margaret Locke (1:54.33) and Cowan (1:55.22), respectively. Meagan Clark finished in fourth (1:56.45).
- Jones (58.54), Ulrich (58.61) and Sutton (59.21) had top three finishes in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Schoening was successful in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.96) and Amanda Rosa came in third (1:06.14). Kasey Gamache finished in fifth (1:07.23).
- Mangum came in first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.01) while Lauren Cavanagh finished in third (2:10.87).
- Schnoor had a first place victory in the 50-yard freestyle (24.02). Tara Goss came in fifth (25.16).
- Emily Wilson won the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 288.30. Teammates Kelsey Jehl (287.63), Victoria Zozzaro (260.92) and Emilee Torres (219.90) finished in the top four respectively.
- Schnoor saw first place in the 100-yard freestyle (51.65). Sarah-Margaret Locke was in second (54.19) and Zeynep Balto was in sixth (56.26).
- Jones was also successful in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.27). Ulrich came in second (2:05.27) and Alex Diacumakos came in third (2:09.01).
- Clark triumphed in the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.80) and Cervone finished in second (5:15.87).
The winning streak continued in the final dual meet of the season for the Towson University men’s swimming and diving team as the Tigers defeated Loyola University (Maryland) 157-125 on Wednesday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Owen Robinson, Ryan O’Leary, Jack Saunderson and Matt Essing won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.32.
- Teammates Zach Bishop, Ben Johnston, Spencer Franklin and Ryan Baldino came in third with a time of 1:35.15.
- Evan Brophy was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:38.12). Andrew Snyder finished in fourth with a time of 9:55.98.
- Ryan Baldino and Evan Lynch had a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
- The Tigers saw the top four finishes in the 200-yard freestyle. Baldino was in first (1:41.60), then Evan Lynch (1:43.03), Essing (1:44.88) and Spencer Franklin (1:47.08).
- Baldino also triumphed in the 100-yard freestyle (46.81). Brophy saw a third-place finish (47.38), Hunter Wright was in fourth (48.54) and O’Leary in seventh (50.57).
- Robinson finished in first place in the 100-yard backstroke (50.99) and Bishop came in second (52.12).
- O’Leary was successful in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.12). Ben Johnston was in third (58.98), Kenny Afolabi-Brown was in fifth (1:00.68) and Nick Fitzwilliam came in eighth (1:01.98).
- Saunderson won the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.60). Matt Kenney finished in fourth (1:57.08) and Richard Keller was in fifth (1:59.55).
- Essing had a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (20.93). Wright finished in third (21.92), Tommy Whitman came in fifth (22.36) and Cody Stewart was in sixth (22.45).
- Will Canny (277.27) and Devin Gaul (226.50) had a 1-2 finish in the 1-meter diving competition, respectively.
- Bishop won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.63 and Whitman came in fifth (1:58.21).
- Fitzwilliam came in second place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.93) and Kenny Afolabi-Brown came in third (2:16.95).
- Lynch also won the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.69). Nick McClure saw fourth place (4:51.66) and Franklin was sixth (4:58.74).

The divers will compete in the JMU Diving Invitational on Feb. 2-3 in Harrisonburg, Va., then Towson will compete in the Nonconference Taper meet with Virginia Tech and UNC on Feb. 8-10.

BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s swimming teams returned to the Mangione Pool at the Fitness and Aquatic Center Wednesday evening, but the Greyhounds fell to Towson University. The Tiger women beat the Greyhounds, 157-125 while the Towson men pulled out a 174-118 decision.
In the women’s competition, Towson took 11 first-place finishes. Junior Annie Hayburn gave Loyola a win in the 100 butterfly, winning with a time of 56.45. Freshman Sophie Jahan (1:00.69) was second in the 100 fly while freshman Molly Davis took third place (1:01.62).
Freshman Abbie Andrews also helped the Loyola cause with a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.69). Freshman Allison Wade of Loyola was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.53).
Senior Brooke Sharkey led a sweep in the 200 I.M. with a winning time of 2:16.00. Freshman Alexa Stewart was runner-up (2:17.08) and Emily O’Halloran (2:17.97) took third place.
Led by freshman Faith Tyranski, Loyola took three of the top four spots in the 50 free. Tyranski was runner-up (24.67), just ahead of Hayburn (24.78) and Jahan (0:24.90).
In the 1000 free, freshman Elizabeth Walsh and Elizabeth Romano finished third and fourth respectively. Walsh had a time of 10:52.66 while Romano took fourth in 10:52.78.
Sophomore Emma Schouten had a pair of third place finishes for the Greyhounds. She was third in the 200 free (1:55.34) and the 100 free (54.55). Junior Ally Pacitti was fifth in the 200 free (1:59.59) and junior Devin Cronin was fourth in the 100 free (55.56).
Cronin led Loyola in the 100 breaststroke by finishing second (1:04.15). Andrews placed fourth (1:06.92).
In the 200 butterfly, freshman Alexa Stewart took second place (2:08.13) and MaryKatherine Clark was fourth (2:11.58).
Another freshman, Maggie Manchester, led Loyola in the 100 backstroke as she took fourth place (59.74). Junior Emily Koegl finished sixth (1:02.08). Manchester was also fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:10.65).
After placing fourth in the three-meter diving, Allison Echeverria won the one-meter diving with 204.82 points.
Sophomore Morgan Hall chipped in with a third place finish in the 500 free (5:16.33) while Romano took fourth place (5:17.19).
The Loyola 200 free relay team closed out the meet by winning the final event with a time of 1:38.81. Jahan, Walsh, Hayburn and Cronin teamed up to win the 200 free relay.
In the men’s competition, the Tigers also had 11 first place finishes.
Senior John Callaghan led the Loyola men by winning the 200 breaststroke (2:10.74) after finishing second in the 100 breaststroke (52.28). Brian Hess took fourth in the 100 breaststroke (59.83) while Luca DiCapua (2:21.15) was fourth in the 200 breast.
In the 100 butterfly, junior Richie Kogut finished first with a time of 51.08. Zac Metzler was second (51.24) and sophomore Patrick Clisham swam third (52.50).
Freshman Josh Walker led the Greyhounds in the 200 I.M., winning with a time of 1:54.85. Sophomore Mark Boran took second place (2:05.56) and freshman Ryan Chan was third (2:06.20).
Boran and Walker also finished in the top three in the 200 backstroke. Boran was second (1:55.19) while Walker place third (1:55.55).
Freshman Jimmy Hayburn led Loyola in the 50 free and the 100 free. He was runner-up in the 50 free (21.32) and was second in the 100 free (47.22). Brendan Kolar was fourth in the 50 free (22.13) and freshman Sung Lee was fifth in the 100 free (49.74).
Freshmen Casey Brown and Jonathan Brooks were the Greyhounds’ top performers in the 100 backstroke. Brown finished third (52.42) and Brooks was fourth (52.61).
Lee led Loyola in the 200 butterfly with a second place finish (1:53.30). Kogut finished third with a time of 1:56.33.
In the 1000 free, freshman Nick Pacitti took second place with a time of 9:47.19. Freshman Alejandro Basalo was fourth (9:53.96).
Pacitti was also runner-up in the 500 free (4:46.50) while Basalo was third (4:50.71).
Sophomore Colin Anderson was the Greyhounds’ top swimmer with a fifth place finish in the 200 free (1:47.55).
Freshman diver Jeremy Unanue took third place in the one-meter diving with 191.54 points. Later in the meet, he won the three-meter diving with 157.87 points.
The Greyhounds’ 200 free relay team of Lee, Hayburn, Anderson and Patrick Clisham closed out the meet by taking first place with a time of 1:25.74.
Both the Loyola men’s and women’s teams return to action on Saturday, February 2 against Mount St. Mary’s at 1:00 p.m. at Mangione Pool. It will be Loyola’s final regular season meet of the season.
