Grothe Blasts 27.5, Eyeing Sprints

27.5 for a 50 Brick kick.  With an open turn.  With The Brick.  Not much can slow Zane Grothe down, apparently not even a 6lb weighted kickboard.  He’s known for strong finishes with a monster kick but maybe he has his sights set on a freestyle sweep in 2020?  If anyone can pull it off, it’s Zane. The guy has as much drive and determination as anyone in swimming.

You can support Zane on his journey to Tokyo by following his Instagram and Facebook pages, and you can see more interesting content like this by following Fike Swim (Instagram | Facebook), a proud sponsor.

Good luck, SWIM DIFFERENT!  And #traininzane

About Fike Swim

“We design products exclusively for the toughest sport in the world.  We unapologetically place swimmers on a pedestal.  The rigors they embrace on a daily basis can only be understood by another swimmer and they deserve a company focused 100% on helping them succeed.  Whether you’re just starting out or training for Tokyo, we stand behind you.”

-James Fike, Founder

Fike Swim Products was born when founder James Fike put a brick on top of a kickboard and transformed just another legs-only kick set into a total body workout felt into the next day.  Since then it’s been our mission to create unique swim equipment with the single-minded goal of making you faster. We don’t sell toys. We create tools to help you reach your potential.

More advertising in the form of articles. You are better than that swimswam.

Freestyle sweep not a chance in hell, even an Olympic silver is pushing it. No chance he beats sun yang in anything less than 800.

I like how Looze lets fans see some of what goes on at his practices. Hardly any other coaches do.

Someone get Cameron Craig to do a 50 kick with a brick. He went a 24 with a normal board, so I’d imagine he could at least go 27 with a brick. Not to use that to put down Grothe, though. Craig is more of a sprinter. Distance swimmers who can kick like that are rare and wonderful. Sun Yang at the end of his mile comes to mind.

Ever since that 4:07 500, I’ve thought Grothe has something good coming down the line in his 200 LCM free, and this does nothing but reinforce that belief. Should be a good summer.

DQ!! Took a cheat stroke at the finish! Can’t tell if he did at the turn. Still impressive tho!

Indiana does that for all their kick stuff – I’ve seen Cody doing it in his video logs. Imagine he didn’t take the stroke, he would still be at like 28.0 which is still incredibly impressive.

I guess the 500 is a sprint

THIS is how to do promo articles that get clicks.

27.5 is fast, like under a minute in a 100… KICKING. With a weighted kick board. Distance swimmers aren’t usually the stars of kick sets. I am impressed.

Anyone else catch that video of Dean Farris kicking a 26.5 50 of breastroke kick with an 8lb brick? It was a couple of years back, I’m sure he’s in the low 20’s by now considering his drops in college.

There’s nothing Dean Farris doesn’t see.

Except if you put a sock on the doorknob. Then he’ll respect your privacy.
