Former Bridgeport Coach Sean Raffile Arrested Again

Former University of Bridgeport swim coach Sean Raffile has been arrested again, his second arrest in 6 weeks. This second incident was officially listed as a “violation of protective order.”

Raffile was first arrested on March 1, 2017. At that point, the charge was felony “risk of injury to [a] child” along with misdemeanor third-degree assault. At the time, he was released on $5,000 bond with a scheduled court date in late March. That specific case is now listed as “awaiting disposition” with another court date on April 26.

Connecticut state court records now indicate that Raffile was arrested again on April 7th. The new charge was a violation of a protective order, and Raffile was released, this time on $10,000 bail.

Raffile had coached at the University of Bridgeport since 2014. The school has yet to respond to our multiple requests for comment as to his current status with the program. Raffile is no longer listed on Bridgeport’s “coaches” page for men’s and women’s swimming and diving, but his name does still appear on the team’s roster page. Raffile has said that he “lost his job” as a result of the alleged incident.

Raffile will have a court date for this second arrest on April 19. Connecticut court records list his case status as “awaiting plea.” Raffile declined to comment on either arrest, but his lawyer said that “we are optimistic that the case will ultimately result in a favorable resolution for Mr. Raffile.”
