Roger Williams University Shuts Down Keene State

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving teams earned a sweep of Keene State College Saturday afternoon, with the men notching a 168-124 win and the women defeating the Owls 184-105.

On the men’s side, eight events were won by Roger Williams. David Kitchen (North Andover, Mass.) and John Babuka (Richmond, Ky.) each played a major role in RWU’s victory, each with a pair of individual wins and a medley win. Kitchen earned wins In the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:14.22) and 200 Yard IM (2:00.76). At the 200 Yard Medley Relay, he along with Hunter Olson (Framingham, Mass.), Gabriel Pasqualucci (Southbury, Conn.), and Michael Sannicandro (Acton, Mass.), combined for the win in 1:38.72.

Babuka won at the 1000 Yard Freestyle in 10:32.14 and 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:02.48. At the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Babuka aided in the Hawks’ victory in the event, along with Pasqualucci, Sannicandro, and Paul Marchese (Monroe, Conn.). Olson earned the other wins for RWU in the 100 Yard Butterfly (53.37) and 200 Yard Freestyle (1:53.23), respectively.

The women collected wins in ten events on the day. Mackenzie Webber (Meadville, N.Y.) had three individual wins for the Hawks, taking first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:00.71), 50 Yard Freestyle (24:15), and 100 Yard Freestyle (54.56). She was also part of the 1:51.45 winning 200 Yard Medley Relay, along with Hannah Nolte (Elmhurst, Ill.), Kenzie Sweeney (Groton, Mass.), and Andrea Almandoz(Sudbury, Mass.).

Shannon Earley (Orange, Conn.) took the top spot in the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:12.59, while Almandoz won the 200 Yard IM in 2:00.12. Sweeney earned victories for the Hawks in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:10.63) and 200 Yard Backstroke (2:36.64).
